    skagit / scandi advice

agreed. if conditions require a lot of weight, the river is probably blown. as mentioned, many of the reaches you will be trout-nymphing, so you don't need to throw 50' mends (not that a skagit would help you any in that arena anyway). for indicator fishing on my TFO switch, i like an over-lined...

What's the worst that could happen?

if you're near a nice piece of upstate trout water that doesnt open until the first, you're probably not that far from a year-round piece of trout water.

    The Global Warming Myth

that there are still so many denier outlets struggling to keep on-message? yup. interesting.

    republican nominee

Failure can be a great teacher. Compare her 2008 campaign to this one. Wouldn't say she can't learn from her mistakes. I'll leave you with the rest of your statement unaddressed...only to say that I agree with part of it. But I like Pete's takeaway better anyway.

    republican nominee

Oh stop it. You can debate the results of her respective tenures all you want. But that's not what I was disagreeing with. Personally, I think she is unelectable, or nearly so, and would be a poor choice regardless. But that's not the point. The issue is your choice of words...namely that...

    republican nominee

That's a curious assertion. Plenty of reasons to distrust and dislike, but how do 8 years in the white house, 8 as US senator, and 4 as sec of state equal "completely unqualified?"

    Fracking is completely safe....

i do think thats an argument in semantics. let me put it this way; we can afford to do a lot better. but i agree that nuclear should play a role. as should natural gas.

    Fracking is completely safe....

no. i wouldnt say any of that. you can regulate the waste stream because there are multiple methods of treatment and/or disposal, and there are multiple potential sources. fracking isnt the only source of dirty water. your tobacco analogy is not analogous. prohibiting the growing of corn because...

    Fracking is completely safe....

WTF are you even talking about? I thought we were talking fracking and earthquakes? Scalable, economical "green" power technologies exist and efficiencies continue to increase. Climate change will be a bigger problem for most poor people than power production to begin with. Island nations are...

    Fracking is completely safe....

I have not researched in depth, but understand that there are treatment technologies out there that can handle the volumes and constituents. The driving component is most likely price. Environmental regulations often require the best available technology be used even when strict pollution limits...

    Fracking is completely safe....

but it isn't...if there is another, better way to deal with wastewater.

    Fracking is completely safe....

"Many of the earthquakes are occurring in swarms in areas where injection wells pump salty wastewater — a byproduct of oil and gas production — deep into the earth." Yes fracking related, not fracking induced

    Salmon River 2015/2016

Ontario fish trend larger but not necessarily prettier in my experience. But I guess it's all in the eye...

    Salmon River 2015/2016

I've only got 8 seasons under my belt out there, and never fished the lower fly, but I have only ever had 1 day like you are describing over that time. So yes, I would agree that you are spoiled. But I don't disagree that numbers are down from what I have seen over the past few years; I just...

    Salmon River 2015/2016

Got a few more days on the Salmon (as well as hitting the Catt, Niagara, and a few others) over the past few weeks. Fishing was not on fire (for us) anywhere, but managed to grab fish here and there. I spent as much time as possible swinging, but also threw some nymphs, eggs, and even spinners...

    Salmon River 2015/2016

Blanked on Monday; clear skies and low water. Rain yesterday and swung up 2 freshies. Still raining, hope to get another pull out 2 today. The fishing may be slim this year but conditions are still everything. There are fish throughout the river even if there aren't a ton of them. Just gotta get...

    Salmon River 2015/2016

Numbers are down, no doubt, but I think that stretch of poor fishing was really more related to the conditions. Most people I saw were reporting a couple picks per day last week, but everybody was working hard for them. Thursday it was like a switch flipped, at least to me. The fish that had...

    Salmon River 2015/2016

Had 4 discouraging and 1 encouraging day on the salmon this week (all swinging). Sun-Weds had a total of 2 pulls. Had a friend lose 1 fish and land 2 smolts/parr over those 4 days, mostly egg/nymphing. Only saw 1 other hookup in that time as well. Water was low (release 350) the first couple...

A new study on the Ice sheet in Antartica

Tom, I apologize for my prior treatment of you. I dealt with you as though you were capable of rational thought, and for that i am truly sorry. I did not realize you were developmentally disabled. I wholly support your continued pursuit of the sciences. Please accept my heartfelt apology. I...

A new study on the Ice sheet in Antartica

But Tom isn't exactly challenging the science now, is he? He's pointing to ulterior motives and possible political corruption to compile ad hominem arguments against the scientists. That is intellectually lazy. Also, stating that he has not found any evidence for the various scientific...
