    When's the next fly swap?

    Hey Dennis C.,

    When's the next fly swap?

I was going through the archrives of previous swaps today, there's some nice patterns there - but no streamers?

I've been tying up a batch of CGS Grey Ghosts for my annual trip up north to chase after LLS. I tie all my CGS patterns as closely to the way she did as possible, except I use a vise.

Next on the list is my own design of a streamer tied in CGS's style , which I call a Yellow Devil. This one works well in NJ too, especially with water conditions like we have now: high, fast, & off color.

Sign me up - I'm definitely interested.

    FLY SWAP!

    Scott,

I'm glad you mentioned it because I was thinking about it too! So, the next swap will be July 22nd. All fly's must be in by that date.

There were definetely a few streamers in the previous swaps. Check out page two of the December swap. BestBugz tied a streamer and Andy B. Tied a streamer.

    http://www.njflyfishing.com/vbportal...ppuser=&stype=

I've never been a big streamer fan, but quite a few swear by them. Nothing like seeing a trout take your fly off the surface!

Anyone interested in the next fly swap, please sign up here. I think we should make this a summer pattern swap. Summer patterns could be caddis, mayfly's, stonefly's, streamers, and of course, terrestrials. If I missed anything, just add it to the list.

ALL ARE WELCOMED, NEW TYERS and EXPERIENCED TYERS!

I am there. However, the streamer patterns that I will provide are patented by the U.S.A. Patent and Trade Office.

I've never been a big streamer fan, but quite a few swear by them.
With the exception of LL Salmon, Streamers are usually my last resort.

However, I have often heard & read the advice that when the water is high, fast, & off color, that's the best time to fish streamers.

That is exactly the same advice I'd give, because it is something that has produced for me many times.

I only fish about 6-7 streamer patterns, but they have all worked for me at one time or another.

They are (in no particular order):

    Col. Bates
    Yellow Maribou
    Grey Ghost
    Black Ghost
    Yellow Devil (my own pattern)
    Kennebago muddler

    Bucktails:

    Micky Finn
    Blue Fly
(a top secret pattern for Maine brookies - one was given to my dad by an old-timer, he was hooking fish after fish with it at the time)

Carrie G Steven's Grey Ghost is likely the best smelt pattern ever devised. I have caught more fish, and bigger fish, with this fly than any other. If you're not catching fish on a grey ghost, why then you're simply just not using the right size!

Whats the recipe for that cgs grey ghost? I just got my vise and figured out the whip finishing tool....it was interesting to say the least. I am still trying to figure out how to dub the collars to stand up so nice...any tips?

It's really not just about catching fish, too bad so many people just don't get it.

Add me in too...I think I'm finally ready to share some of my tying with other members here. I'll start basic though - my special version of a gold ribbed hares ear.

Count me in too. I have a vinyl ribbed nymph I created this spring that has been working great for me. I'll share it with you all and find out if it produces as well for the rest of you.

    Question

    Dennis:

Is it possible to have a due date for the swap of August 1, 2003. I will be away the first week of July on Bussiness and camping the next week on the Willowemoc on vacation. If this can be done I will join and tye a streamer pattern. The Pattern that I will tye is yet to be decided. I'll make it a good one that works that probably you guys never herd of.

    Andy B

    Andy,

I don't think it will be an issue. Any objections?

Would one of my Caribou hair/grizzly hair streamers be ok?.....I haven't delved into the world of tying anything smaller yet. Since they are simple and maybe kind of a cop out I'll include a moe egg as well, for those who aren't familiar with the hot glue eggs if there are any such people here. It'll be a package 2 simple flies tied by a simple guy....lol
