    The Summertime Blues

For those who are just itching to get out and have some fun with a few hard tugging fish, try Great Kills Harbor in Gateway National Park, on Staten Island. Its easy to get to.
There has been an ENORMOUS school of big bunker hanging around the mouth of the harbor now for weeks. Acres in size and everyday just getting ripped through by big bluefish in the 10-15lb class. You can reach these from the point of the harbor or along the shore with a fly rod, easily, if you are there when the water starts to move. For anyone with a kayak...you would have a ball.

Wish we got some of those big blues down this way. 1-2lbers is all we really get in the summer. And the big bunker is down here too, so I really don't get it...

Fish are still hanging in there. The bass fishing around Montauk has continued to be pretty good. Bluefin are plentyful off the coast of Newport RI, within a few miles. Occasional Bluefin are being found within a few miles of the beaches in Jersey.

The good news is, peanut bunker are being found in great amounts in the rivers. Its getting close to fall. Time to start tying for the salt and getting your larger gear ready.
