    The Show

Lads, I was very disapointed that the circus didn't happen on Saturday. I know one Lad was looking to take a few snaps, hope he got some of the snaps he was looking for. I just wanted to pay witness to the show.

I did wet a line for a short while in the PM, not much to speak of, practiced casting mostly.

I did not see any game wardens out checking permits, on the Salmon River during the season I would see at least one warden per popular spot. I for one like to see that and only wish NJ would do the same. It has a soothing effect on some of the rowdys that show up only at the start of the season and fade as something else comes into vogue. I was going to claim when golf comes in, however, they don't seem like the sorta Lads to head for the links on a normal basis. While pondering this, I believe back yard B-B-Qing and beer guzzling is the next season for those lads.

I hope my fellow fly fishers enjoyed themselves over this past weekend. Good luck this season Lads and stay safe.

Re: Do you fish opening day (trout) in your state?

Yes I usually like to get out on the opener.

Even though we have a lot of streams open yearround, it brings back great memories of opening day with my family.

Re: Do you fish opening day (trout) in your state?

Interesting fact, After spending a seson with the guidence last year of rford and wiley, among a few others,I will change my original answer of yes last year to NO this year. These guys have shown me that opening day is for everybody else cause we can catch trout year round! There is really not an opening day for me anymore as Ralph has shown me the way of the flyfisherman, and I like it!
I am selling my conventional gear on ebay this year and do beleive I have seen the light and will be fishing with flygear only for salt and fresh this year.
Thanks guys for the schooling,my brain needs the break!

You know me!!! I love crowds. Nothing like standing next to a guy and his kid while they throw 2oz boulders into the pool you're fishing in.

Ok, the truth is... I'd rather take pictures of the people having fun then participate. 2 seasons ago, I got some great shots of people having fun. They were hooked into the same fish and trash talking each other (they were friends, so it was just horse play (and funny as hell)) and they had a blast bringing it to the net. That's the kind of stuff I like to see on opening day.

Of course this type of stuff (crowds)... I used to call fools, but then you learn a story behind what's going on, like the one you just mentioned (seeing the same people after years, etc...) And some on the Musky by the falls where the same people have been fishing. I still think the guys fishing under the falls over there are nuts, but if they're having fun and smiling, that's all that really matters.

Dennis' opening day photo essays are NOT to be missed.

I think that's one of the best ways to spend the day.
( bring along a flask of the good stuff, a great cigar, your camera, and watch the best live fishing comedy show ). Then go home and view Dennis' shots
of the other two rings of the circus that you missed.

You bet! Just another day on the water. Many waters in my area are open year round, so I fish year round. Fish don't get stocked until late April or early May here so what I am catching & releasing are hold-overs or wilds.
If I didn't need to work I WOULD FISH EVERY DAY, WOULDN'T YOU ?

Can't you just go down to the hatchery Near GBS in Warrenstuckyville and shoot the trained trout as they jump through the hoops?
