    It's really for the kids

I have three kids, and my two sons really look forward to opening day. I really go to make sure they have a good time, not really to do any serious fishing on my own.....but if I happen to land a few it's a nice bonus!

It's a mass slaughter -something I want no part of. Even wild trout get taken. I bass fish or go out of state. Hands down worst day of the year for trout fishing.

    Fish alone, catch more trout.

I haven't fished opening day in years. I'll wait until mid or end of april. I really enjoy fishing once the stocking truck stops showing up later in the year.

With 364 other days to trout fish, with fewer crowds and a-holes involved, these days I usually hook up the boat and just go bassin'.

    quiet

i usually find some remote places in nearby streams believe it or not... usually pick up a trout or 2 but usually release them. last year I found some trout(small possibly wild) on the saddle north of hollywood ave.. caught them spin casting on a small size CP Swinger.

Fly casting later in the day this year if it doesn't t-storm

    Opening Day Plus 1

Lad's, I do go out on opening day and get a wee bit of fishing in. Mostly I enjoy the Yahoo's that are also out there trying to catch one. They act if their live's depended on landing moby dick. I am one who likes to fish the Salmon River in Paluski, NY, during the Salmon runs, and into Steelhead season. So crowds don't upset me. They are part of the enjoyment of fishing and watching our fellow man attempt to do something only a few of us are capable of doing, catching fish regularly.

I see this year to be no different. On or about 8 AM, I usually like to take along my camera and catch some snaps of the crowds. Zoom in on Lad's trying to retrieve their fly from the tree branch located behind the stream, or the Lad's that just stepped out of an Orvis catalog and still haven't figured out how to operate all the new gizzmo's purchased over the winter.

As long as no one drowns and fist-a-cuff's are kept at a minimum, I consider it a very successful opening day.

Opening Day is a carnival and who doesn't enjoy a carnival. I like to see people of all ages and skills join together and catch fish one time a year. They soon disappear leaving most of my favorite spots in peace. And their license fees are a welcome boon to the struggling Fish & Game workers across the region.

The Devil on my shoulder asked the question why do all the fly fishers fall over themselves complaining about Opening Day crowds and then all jam into the KLG, Pequest TCA, and Heritage stretch of the Little Lehigh the rest of the year when most streams are empty?

Fish on opening day,,,You bet I do,,,,just not on a river where trout are stocked. I like to go carp or bass fishing on the opener. However, I REALLY enjoy the circus. To watch two grown men come to blows over a pale 7 inch stockie makes me wonder which species is more superior . From May till the closer, I would say we humans are the superior species; however, on the opener, I believe that the average trout has superior intelligence compaired to the average yahoo. Makes me laugh though
