Lopatcong Creek restoration
Yes, a new post. Sorry, I was bored. We recently completed a 1 1/2 mile restoration of Lopatcong Creek in three different towns in Warren County. The project was designed to re-slope badly eroded "vertical banks", create in-stream habitat, and reconnect this stream to its otherwise intact floodplain. TU funded the project through staff and TU volunteers helped with pulling and installing coir matting on the newly re-sloped banks as well as performing the native plantings with a little help from my skid steer with an auger attachment to dig many holes quickly. We have NJ's best limestone spring creek here, and it can be significantly improved over coming years with the effort it took to bring this big project to fruition. Native brook trout, wild brown trout and stocked rainbows inhabit this stream.
