Normally at this point in the season I would have been out several times but due to the lockdown and work last night was my first opportunity to get out. A last minute decision to hit the evening hatch paid off.
I arrived streamside at 7pm to a solid sulphur hatch and rising fish. Size 14-18 sulphurs with a handful of slate drakes and then some Cahill added to the mix. Found this beast sipping sulphurs in the tail out and connected on the second cast. Solid brown just north of 22 inches and clearly eating quite well. Not a bad way to start the season.

Re: A fishing report
I drifted by, but on Monday. Sunday was wading lower West and then over to Cadosia for spinner fall. I love me some Bug Week action and trying to figure out why with a million tasty mayflies of multiple species do the trout key on caddis emergence to the one caddis emerger you don't have in your box?

Re: A fishing report
Lol.... ok haven’t fished the Pequest in about 20 years! I remember at one time the NJ State record rainbow was caught at the bottom of that concrete flume on the Pequest. A hatchery breeder washed out of the hatchery during high water. At least you don’t see any freezer burn from the supermarket on his fish like the one in Moosekids Avatar. Definitely a
Supermarket fish .....lol! He gets an A for effort though.

Re: A fishing report
Beautiful fish, Mac.
Sometimes fishing itself is like fly tying. You look back on the old flies you tied, and you know you’re getting better. A lot better...
Years back we met up on the river, and here’s the pic I took of the fish you caught - I’ll never forgot how proud you were to catch a trout! “An actual trout!” I remember you yelling, and ordering your oarsman Dluver and I take your picture.
Well, here’s the pic I got of you and your fish from years ago... And again, congrats on that brown trout. It’s a beauty.
