10 pound Delaware trout

No I didnt catch it. My friend Jack sent me pictures. He said a guy named Mike caught it.

Apparently it was a size 20 olive it ate and not a Hendrickson or a treble hook with powerbait...

Awesome fish. Several years ago a 30 incher was taken in the same general vicinity on a caddis.

I always thought it would be cool to snorkel or scuba to the bottom of some of the deep holes like the 191 or just below the Shehawken ramp, or the Deposit sewer plant or the Jesus pool. Can just imagine what might be seen down there...

I'll give the angler and benefit of doubt. I have seen two 30" wild browns in the upper D in my life. One was hooked by a good friend that I was unable to land in the No-Kill on the West long ago. On that fish, the PT nymph just pulled after a very long fight. The other was rising up a huge boulder near the top of "the wall" at Buckingham on the main to emerging caddis. Because of the weirdness of the drift due to the boulder, I had to stack mend the cast to give the fly a few seconds in the zone. He ate, I set, and the hook grabbed for a second and later pulled. Huge browns have a lot of fleshy areas around their mouths, and I think small hooks like the ones we were using (18 and 20) just lacked enough gap to grab deeper flesh. But it can happen and looks like it did.

I saw an article that said he was using 5x tippet and after a few long runs a fellow in a drift boat was able to net it for him. That fish would have been tough to land by yourself.

Hey Guys,

I am the guy in the drift boat and it is my net but I didn't net it. A friend of mine did. I was trying to help him but when I saw the size of the fish I did not want to anchor up and risk getting the fish tied in the anchor. I called a friend who was fishing upstream who ran down and I hurled my boat net to him. I watched the whole thing. It was a size 20 olive. The best part of the story is when he hooked the fish he had no idea how big it was and handed the rod to his four or five year old son who played the fish for about five minutes. The fish was just sitting at the bottom, then it came up and splashed its tail, and everyone knew it was a special fish and he took the rod back. His name is Nick not Mike. I am attaching a picture of the fish on the board. You can see I am holding the board and he has his hand under the fish. We should have flattened it out and it would have measured 28.5-29 That is my dog Melo and my 16 year old son was there too.

I catch 3 or 4 fish of this size every year on the lower main stem, down by long eddy. Usually on #26 soft hackle trico emergers, fished directly upstream in full sun. It is a special experience every time. But not that special. I don't even take photos of them anymore.

I think Jim Serio and Larry Miri used to put on snorkeling equipment and snorkel in some places like the Lordville Bridge area.

I believe Allan Jaspar caught a pretty nice sized fish years ago somewhere in Stylesville on his euro nymphing thing.

Just so everyone knows, the big fish are in Stylesville, especially when fishing.

I've been fishing this river for a long time. I have a 23- 24" brown, 1 22" Rainbow, and the rest are anywhere between 9" - 21". 21" fish for me are once a year if I'm lucky!
