Long Beach Island, NJ With The Flyrod?

Going to be spending some time down in LBI this summer. Recently picked up a 9wt and want to see if I can get some time in the water with it down there. Does anyone know some spots that would make sense wading on LBI? I don't have access to a boat so I have to be able to wade.

Been looking online for any clues but cant find much. Any help will be grateful. Thank you.

We used to own an oceanfront home on LBI in Beach Haven. I fished it regularly in fall and earlier in spring before the crazy beach season. Focus on any cuts between the inner trough and the outer bars if you can find any sandbars left these days. But that's another story for another day. Fish the deep sides of any rock or wood groins. Many call them jetties, but true jetties are an opening to the ocean like the one way up top of LBI which is the southern opening to Barnegat Bay. The groins are also out of the areas frequented by swimmers, especially early and late in the day which is the only chance time-wise you really have to catch fish with a fly rod this time of year from the beach. There can be decent fishing up by the lighthouse tower depending on bait and tide, so that is always popular. Finally, try a popper at night for bass or blues.

You can walk out on the dike in Barnegat Light that is across Myers Hole. You can get there by making a left on 20th st when you are heading north(in Barnegat Light), go through the stop sign straight, to road will go about a 1/4 mile then curve 90 degrees left, make an immediate right on to Arnold and then the first right on to Sunset. At the end of that street you can park and then walk out on either side. The east side is all beach, the west side is a combination of beach and marsh. Check it out on a map and you will see it. It is public land, there are no access issues(at the end of Sunset).

Did you find a place to park? I understand some in town pressured the town to closing much of the available public parking.

There is plenty of parking early in the morning.

Glad you got into some fish. That sized bluefish are great eating. Fish after dark or get out to the creeks in the marsh islands (need a little boat) to find the bass right now, there are some there.
