SBR match the hatch please
Need some recon info please. Have not been able to get out much this year. Have a chance tonight and want to hit SBR. What's on the menu right now? Califon - KLG area. Thanks.

Other than thunderstorms, that very same bug on your finger will be hatching or should be. Dorotheas as well. Isos are making an appearance as are Light Cahills and various caddis. Olives may pop in the rain as well. Good luck.

Re: SBR match the hatch please
That bug in the avatar was from KLG many years ago. His relatives were being picked off frequently last night. I did see what I though were ISO's and your reply has probably confirmed this. I wasn't sure because I thought it was early in the season for them. Caddis sporadic. Sulfurs were the ticket, but you had to be there at dark thirty +. No early risers.

Saw Iso's, sulphurs, caddis, craneflies and midges yesterday, no cahills, no thunder....sporadic rises here and there early evening, then I had to go home...didn't get to see dark 30...

Heads up, Shannon's credit card machine wasn't working earlier. It is a Comcast issue that Comcast was working on. Just bring cash in case you need stuff and the machine isn't back up and running. I swung by earlier to have my lunch in the back room which I do often when in the area or before/after a guide trip. I have a TU chapter board meeting this evening or would be out myself. Expect sulphurs late along with spinner falls. Maybe Isos as well.

Had a great evening, nice hatches. Just got in after a beer and wings. Only one other angler out with me , I saw a few when driving out, missed a perfect night that is for sure.

Re: SBR match the hatch please
I fished the Middle Valley section yesterday afternoon/evening and ended up with about a dozen brookies and one stocker bow. Started fishing about 5 by prospecting with an Ausable Bomber and caught about 4 or 5 brookies casting to likely looking holding water. Got to one deep spot and for s&g tied on a Blood Dot and first drift caught a stocker bow. Sulphurs started coming off a little before 8, tied on a sulphur comparadun and I probably caught every rising fish I saw as I fished back to the car. I was out of the river by 8:30 so I don't know what happened after that.
Was quite surprised that all the rising fish were brookies, not a brown to be had.

That's great to hear! I live a mile or two up the road from there and keep saying I will start fishing that stretch a lot again now that it is being managed as a WTS, but just haven't had time. That stretch will continue to improve IMO as the WTS regs remain in place and after we have a decent spawning year for a much needed change.

If nothing is rising, which is usually the case on the SBR, tie on an iris caddis, put an appropriate sized split shot 6 to 8 inches above the fly, throw it into the current and let it sink, lift the rod tip slightly every few feet of drift..if you feel any weight, set the hook, it's a fish!!!!! If you don't get a take, let the fly swing all the way to the dangle and "hang" there for a few seconds...Do the same with a pheasant tail soft hackle if the iris isn't producing....I fish this way there all year and catch fish most every trip...here's your set-up..it's "fool proof"!!!

Re: SBR match the hatch please
I went last night and saw the same thing, got a couple on sulphur wet flies/emergers. Saw a lot of large adult stoneflies.
