Anyone want to float the west branch Sunday 8/21?

Finally got a pontoon and looking to float this Sunday probably from Deposit/Indian country to balls eddy, weather dependent. Wondering if anyone want to do the same. Trying to get away from the crowds and fish some new (to me) water. Would be driving up from Passaic County NJ with a Pickup. Could carpool or pick someone up along the way. Figuring on an all day float, starting around dawn till whenever.

Saturday is also a possibility but Sunday may be easier.

That's a long way to float in a pontoon. I've done it in a drift boat with the dam pumping about 400cfs. Let's just sayin was very dark when I was done.

9 river miles per the book. Maybe I'll shorten it up a bit. Also very open to suggestions!

Also in lieu of finding a partner, whats the go to shuttle service for the area? And are they typically good to go first thing in the morning around sun up? Never did it so not sure how it works. If they take my truck downstream, what do they do just lock my spare key in the truck?

    Thanks in advance!

You can float from Barking Dog to Balls Eddy in about 4 hours if you didnt stop. The shuttle will not pick up your vehicle at dawn. Let them know what time you think you are going to take out and they will have it there. Not sure if you are going to beat the crowds as everyone and his brother is up there now.

well...yea. I should say to get to "less crowded areas". Was up a few weeks ago in heavy rain. Saw 3 other guys on a sunday. last time the sun was shining all day, and most parking areas were overflowing. I like the rain. lol.

Barking dog is indian country correct? I dont have the book right now and dont have all access points in my head yet.

And also, any specific shuttle service you guys have found to be reliable and affordable?

Gene and Ines at the Capra Motel have always been very reliable for a shuttle.

Since you have a pontoon you can take out at Hale Eddy. That will shorten your drift some.

set sail at 1pm. take out at hale. if you leave earlier in the day, you probably won't see much surface activity.

Lacey: Where'd you get that pistol?
    Blevins: At the gettin' place.

Less crowds on the WB in August! lol. You might as well fish at Cairns on the Beaverkill on a Saturday evening.

Gene and Ines at the Capra are the best + every 6th shuttle is free.

Re: Anyone want to float the west branch Sunday 8/21?

LOL - yea yea. Unless it looks like a cloudy or rainy day maybe i'll nix the 2.5 hour drive and just do some smallie fishing here in nj. I had a tough time in the bright sun all day last time. Sun up to sun down, Nothing much going on and not a single take all day. Thats probably just my lack of actual skill though. lol. 2 all day trips, one break off. Everyone I talk to - oh yea I got 2 or 3. Or the one dude "yea I got around 9 or so". Humbling.. for sure.

If I do head up I'll prob put in up in stilesville and take out at Hale as suggested. And if I do I'll give Gene and Ines a call. Thanks guys!
