    A WBDluver Requested Tying Video - Ginger Quill

    WBDluver has sent me dozens of PM's today asking for a tying video. The guilt he has over dissing The Squirminator and I has him trembling in a corner of his local library, where he hangs out looking to pick up chicks....something about girls with glasses have really nice....... He even insisted that it be tied with 6/0 Olive Danville thread. Here it is WBD, now you can come out of the corner.....

    Hope you feel better WBDluver.

    Some serious issues with proportions on this one.

    The quill body is fine, but the wings are too long. If you ask me, they are so far off that I'd suggest you redo the video (with me demonstrating the wing).

    You know you've made it when you buy packages of stripped peacock quills...

    Another great video and pretty fly - do you use fleximent on the wings?

    Beautiful fly! I disagree about the wing size and as someone that was influenced by Vince Marinaro, those tall wings will work great on difficult trout, especially on slower moving water. I tend to use burned wings for my fussy brown trout flies and never spent much effort on the split mallard wing but may give it a try again. Thanks for the video.

    The problem with the elongated wing is that the fly will not sit upright, unless you severely over hackle.

    Bottom line?

    This fly won't fish.

    I am working on a video that shows the proper wing proportions.

    Could you tell me where in the video he addresses that?

    This video was a snoozer, and should be forwarded to the sleep clinic.

    GB,
    If you watched the video. You would see;
    Matt addresses the issue you mention during tying of the wing segments. He reinforces the fact his procedure is correct at the end when he drops the fly. The fly lands kind of on it's side and corrects itself.

    Of course the 9.6 came from the Russian judge. Commie bastard.

    No fleximent or other glues used on this fly, or for that matter, any of my flies, except when I coat a buzzer or red quill body.
