Like I said before, I wear cotton, a hoodie pocket is a perfect place to dry a fly, put it in the edge of the pocket and squeeze, add a little frog's fanny, voila.......
a T-shirt works just as well.......just use a new spot each time.....

Frogs fanny, and those others that are brushed on are not good for you to breath in.

Re: All you ever wanted to know to get you fly to float
I guess all these tips are good... In theory...
I don't have a "water-logged" dry fly problem.
My dries aren't on the water long enough to get that way before some bruiser nails them.
My problem is always changing my fish MANGLED flies.
Well, that, and what to do with the dozens of CRUSHED flies. I mean should I just toss them or should I go through the trouble of stripping the hooks and giving them to someone who ties? I want to do my part and recycle/reuse, but the time involved stripping SO MANY beat up flies...
Mac, can you find a video about THAT problem?
John

No self respecting tyer wants a store bought Taiwanese knock off hook slightly used.
If they're not fishable after you wash off the Chubb slime just toss em.

You are supposed to put Frogs Fanny on the fly, not on your mustache. That hint should mitigate any safety concerns.

lol Watch the video and you will see what i mean. That is also used to waterproof feathers on traditional arrows and there is a warning on the bottle when you buy it from the archery supply places. Even on the Frog Fanny bottle there is a warning about inhaling it. But it is hard to avoid, as you can see in the video.

Re: All you ever wanted to know to get you fly to float
I always wondered where the stuff was used before fly fishermen started with it. The warnings are strictly a cover-your-ass thing for legal purposes, if the stuff was all that dangerous it wouldn't be sold for consumer use. Really, you would have to inhale bottles of the stuff to cause lung damage. Unless you smoke of course, then all bets are off.

Just make your own from paraffin and either lighter fluid or coleman fuel. Cheaper than shit and probably works better than most of the commercial stuff.

The particular products Steve uses aren’t all that relevant, so don’t feel like you have to run out and buy new stuff.
probably the best tip of the entire article

I still feel the best way to treat a dry fly is with Scotchgard.I have been using it for a long time.
