    Royal Coachman Variation....

    So,
This morning, I was sitting home waiting for the building inspector to show, and I glance d a NEFF...slow around here....anyway, I saw Thursthouse responded about the wet flies....I like those flies as well.....for you doubters, they catch fish as well as being "pretty"......I haven't tried to tie one in a while, so having some time to kill.......
I call it the "Royal Coachman Code Inspector", I didn't have the correct hook, my shank was shorter(haha, that's what she said), my natural peacock has dried up(haha, that's what she said), so I used dyed green.....hence the code inspector variation....

Thurst, I cut and set four wings, until I was happy with this one.....it is not easy, but I am definitely NOT an expert....there was turkey feather all over the floor.....Some will say the wing is too long on this with the short shank,,,,I say,STFU!! I like it.....

    BOCA Code violation.

Looks like it will fish to me. I doubt any brook trout would tell the difference.

The first time I set a wing halfway decent I used almost an entire turkey feather....it took hours over two days.....kept cutting them, lining them up and ruining them.........now I'm down to half a feather...

    Goose shoulder feathers

PACKS I go through tryin to set a wing

Turkey at least gets me a finished product but I too burn through that shit pretty quick.

PEACOCK OTOH marries easy, sides seems to wanna cling to themselves, softer n easily compressed, and it looks amazing.

    Re: Royal Coachman Variation....

this fly is goose shoulder, I made a mistake in my post.........it is nice for smaller wings like this because it is nice and soft.....Never tried peacock...what feathers for wings? I like turkey too.....marries like drunks in Vegas, goose shoulder marries like....well, shit!!! for me anyway...
