Email from EJTU, re "Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative"

If you're on the NJTU mailing list, or visit the GST forum, you may have already seen this....
Changes to Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative

    NJ Trout Unlimited Grassroots Members,

I wanted to share with you all the enclosed letter from Brian Cowden, who has decided to move on from his position as Trout Unlimited's HRI Coordinator. Although we will miss his dedication from a "TU Employee" perspective to not only the Musconetcong, but all waters in NJ, I look forward to working with him at the Council Level. He will continue to bring his river restoration expertise to NJTU!

Thanks Brian for all you have done in the past!

Richard Thomas - NJTU Council Chair

    January 4, 2015

    Dear TU Grassroots:

After seven amazing years, it is time for me to move on from my job with Trout Unlimited as the Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative Coordinator effective January 8th. I am pleased to announce that TU will be hiring my replacement and I am working with my boss, Gary Berti, to smoothly transition my job so that existing projects continue without interruption. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your tremendous support of this project over the last seven years, and I know you will continue to support the new staffer once he or she is on board. Together, we have made a significant impact in river restoration and protection in New Jersey and beyond, and I know that momentum will continue for years to come. It has been my honor and privilege to have worked with all ten chapters and state council in NJ as well as our NY City chapter and several eastern PA chapters during my time as coordinator of this initiative. I met some great conservationists within our ranks and have made lifelong friends along the way. While the Wild & Scenic Musconetcong River has been the obvious focal point of this initiative, many other NJ trout streams have benefited from what we have worked on together in the areas of dam removals, river channel restoration, riparian buffer restoration, and critical lands protection for our native Eastern brook trout as well as other trout living in those waters.

While this is goodbye from a staff standpoint, I will remain active in grassroots which is where I began with TU many years ago. I will continue to represent TU on many levels as a volunteer while a new staff person can be hired and transitioned. Once again, my sincere thanks for all that you do for Trout Unlimited, and I look forward to seeing you on the stream. For those that wish to remain in contact, my cell phone will remain the same and my personal email is: brianmag@optonline.net. Again, thank you for your tremendous support over the last seven years.

    Brian

Thanks Pete, I felt weird posting it myself. Yup, after 7 great years, it's time to move back to the for-profit world. Got a kid going to college in a few years and a couple of old vehicles in need of replacement and those things are tough on a TU salary, lol. News soon about my new role, but staying in the field as it were. And keeping you boobs honest here on NEFF (or helping you keep dishonest, whichever).

I'll remain very active on the chapter and state council like the good old days.

If it was posted first on GST, I'm guessing you wanted to keep this quiet for a bit, and I respect your effort to preserve your privacy.

So now that the news is public, I wish you well.

Some say that the waters of the Musky are the cleanest they've been in 25 years.

Best to you and for the good work you've done, thank you.

Only when I'm not standing in those waters.

Brian, we thank you and the Musky thanks you, as do all the other Jersey rivers you worked to improve. I don't, but that's only because you keep stealing my power bait.

Best of luck to you in your new venture.

    Matt

Rusty....Brian.....a big thank you for making New Jersey a better place to fish......
I have fished restored waters on the Musky, I know you are partly responsible for that....The first time I went, for a moment, thought of The Gallatin river.......
Thanks again and good luck in your new work....
