    redfish in the low country

Hatch Magazine has a nice article on fall fishing for reds down in South Carolina.

I've targeted reds in Amelia Island, Florida, and come up empty.

So I haven't forgotten the redfish, and would like to catch one on the fly. This trip could be done on a budget.

    Enjoy the article.

Re: redfish in the low country

I went out with a guide this summer for my first redfish trip and gottay say it was a lot more fun than I expected. I went to New Smyrna just east of Orlando and we went out for them on a flats boat just like you would for bonefish or any other flats fish. You would see the fish working the shallows, pole in close with the boat, and then take a shot at them from 30-45 feet out. The redfish guides aren't as expensive as a lot of the other flats type style trips are either, our guide was $300 for an 8 hour day of fishing. Much less than your typical keys trip.

I'm kicking myself over and over because I spent a fair amount of time in Charleston years ago including getting engaged to my wife and never once found my way onto the flats for reds. Once her grandmother passed, our trips down in Low Country were over.
