March 2012 Fly Swap. Favorite Streamers.
I was wondering if anyone might be interested in joining me in doing a fly swap. I've never done one before, but I thought that it would be a cool thing to participate in and shake off some of the winter doldrums. Like many other guys, I LOVE to tie and fish meaty streamers. Albeit extremely effective, I get so tired of Wooly Bugger, and like to experiment with other patterns. If anyone is interested, please PM me or reply. I was thinking we could make the deadline March 15th. As per the flies themselves, I would say exclude simple woolly bugger, and maybe stay away from some of the hardcore Carrie Steven’s/Rangley patterns. (Good intermediate ties like hair wings, matukas, zonkers, etc) I would be happy to contribute one of my patterns, or something less commonly used these days like a Thunder Creek minnow or one of the lesser known classic Hair wings.

I wouldn't exclude buggers for 2 simple reasons. 1 hands down its the deadliest streamer ever made. 2. It's a simple tie that beginners can handle, that can be tied in a million ways.

Just a suggestion but, whether you allow woolies or not i think the swap will be much more successful if you shoot for 2013.
