Warmth question to all you hardcore guys

I'm looking to pick up a nice warm jacket for the winter. Two jackets I'm considering:

Patagonia Men's Primo Down Jacket with Gore-Tex® for Skiing and Snowboarding

    and

Simms Fishing Products : : Bulkley Jacket

I know down is warm. I've never had "Primaloft" before. Anyone have any experience with it?

    We're talking $279.00 (SIMMS) vs. $649.00 (Patagonia).

Both have GORE-TEX outter shells. SIMMS is PrimaLoft and Patagonia is Down.

What do you use, and if you've used either of the above products, how do you like it?

I bought this one for skiing..it is great, warm, wicks the sweat away, roomy and light, but I bet the Patagonia is just as great.....

If you're buying it to fish with, get the Simms. Patagonia is probably too bulky for fishing, not the right type of storage either. If you're buying it for hiking, photo-shoots, skiing, general outdoors, the Patagonia. Having said that, Patagonia's are nice, but I find them to be way overpriced. Check out Helly Hansen for a good alternative, they are just as technologically advanced as Patagonia.

if your thinking warm for winter fishing, look into the battery powered heated jackets, vests, ect that are on the market. They make a real difference on the water and make for a very enjoyable day. Might make you take a boat ride in jan/feb...you would be surprised at the numbers and size of the fish u pull out.

Patagonia but buy it on eBay you will pay a lot less and they have a fair amount of new clothes.

It's not about what jacket you have. It's about your layering. I wear just a Simms G4 guide jacket but I am layered with Merino wool, and fleece. I would just get a gore tex jacket and buy proper layers.

Found one on Ebay. The problem is I'm not sure if I need a large or xtra large. No returns!

    I actually own this one:
Simms Fishing Products : : Pro Dry GORE-TEX® Parka

Nice jacket but I want something I can wear to work and keep warm without layering up. I work in Jersey City and walk about 1/2 mile to my office every day.

Check these out: Men's Ultra Light Down - Men's Down Coats and Jackets | UNIQLO
I know it's a Japanese hipster store, but it's a lot of jacket for the money. You don't have to be an anorexic Soho person to wear it, and it's warm enough for winter fishing unless you fish in single digits (who does?). I have the longer jacket, helps to keep my ass warm under my breatheables.
