    Refinishing a landing net?

My Brodin landing net can use refinishing this winter. Which would provide the best and most durable finish: spar varnish or polyurathane?

    In general:
Polyurethane is more protective and durable, but may be susceptible to deterioration from UV.....excellent indoors, problematic outdoors.

Spar varnish is more flexible, making it more forgiving of seasonal wood movement....designed for boats, and other outdoor applications.

The UV absorbers added to some polyurethanes only last 2 to 4 years. Unless you intend to refinish frequently, my choice would be a spar varnish.

Avoid water based finishes, regardless of the labeling, they're not really varnishes, and they're less durable.

You can't beat Tru Oil. Water resistant, used on gun stocks, used on bamboo rods.

Maybe you can use a belt sander and hone a dildo shaped handle like WBD's favorite net.

Hell no and it aint over now.......

    Re: Refinishing a landing net?

I use spar varnish and I usually do 2 coats sanding in between. My brodin is about 20 years old and still looks good.
