Salmon River Report 2012
Figured I would start this one up early in anticipation of what is to come. I haven't been on the river since mid-April, might try to make it up once by the end of the month to swing for an Atlantic or Skamania during a white water release. No SpeyNation for me this year, will be floating the WCC instead on Saturday.
In less than 2 months the salmon are going to start trickling into the Salmon River. I am usually one of the first guys taking advantage of my DSR pass and hit the river a few times in late August and the first week of September and have always been rewarded with some nice fresh fish that are ready to destroy gear. I'm already starting to get the itch!
Then comes the 3rd week of September, the chrome and big browns start to hit the lower river and the real season begins!
Just remember this, avoid the river the first 2 weeks of October, especially Columbus Day weekend. Well.....unless you want to be entertained by the mopes snagging fish and all the zombies going out on stringers that will dreadfully be consumed by unsuspecting families and friends.

Lynch,
I can't wait either! My leave will be from the 15th of September until the 30th! The wife works until 2:30pm so I will be on the water for the first half of the morning almost every day I can! I am going to also visit my local slob brown spot to see if they are still lurking. Might even be some nice chromed up lake run rainbows in there! Remind me to tell you where that spot is. Biggest brown I've caught there was about 4lbs. Had a day where I didn't catch a fish under 13".
I will be using my new sharpes bamboo 8/9wt and can't wait to put the wood to some fish!

Re: Salmon River Report 2012
My buddy took his drift boat out during the recent water release and swung spey flies between altmar and 2a. He got into an Atlantic for a few minutes and several browns. That's a good start and there are a few fish in the river, even during the summer months. Let the real tick tock begin!

Re: Salmon River Report 2012
Next Friday I have plans to head up to the SR for the first time since April. I usually go up a day or 2 before Labor Day weekend and poke around the DSR to check out the layout of the runs before the flows increase (latest is 185 until mid-sept, 335 then if there is rain). It's a great day because the run is empty and I have always been able to find a few early fish holding in certain areas.
My only issue now is my knee. It's been bothering me a little lately and when out for a 3 mile run yesterday, about 2.5 miles into it, my left knee went crunch in the meniscus area. Going to the Dr. tomorrow, hopefully I didn't tear it. I went through the arthroscopic surgery 7 years ago on my right knee and don't want to again.

Re: Salmon River Report 2012
I hope you get good news from the doc, lynch.
That would suck missing out an entire chrome season..
Knee problems suck.. If you cant walk, you cant fish..
I have an under developed ligiment in my right knee. It kills me some days and always flares up after i wade in cold water..

Good news. Dr. said it's a strained ligament will take some time to heal, looks like I'll be hitting the boring elliptical and pool. The Dr said to rest it and apply this 7 day topical lotion.
DSR, here I come next Friday.
