Re: Salmon River Report 2012
Pulaski, NY -- The minimum flow increase on the Salmon River scheduled for Saturday has been delayed until Sept. 15.
Brookfield Renewable Energy Group said the increase flow on the river is delayed because of lower than normal reservoir water levels and a lack of precipitation in the forecast. The area of the river affected would be Altmar, Pulaski, Pineville and Port Ontario.
The decision to delay is based on input from members of the Flow Management Advisory Team regarding the adverse impact on salmon mortality if spawning flows cannot be sustained through the fall spawning period. The current minimum flow of 185 cubic feet per second will be maintained through Sept. 15 or until an increase in water levels can be reached and confidently sustained.

Fishing was off the charts today. Woke up at 3am, left by 3:25am, picked up my breakfast pizza and suited up at the Nice & Easy by 5:45a and was at the DSR right at 6am. My best day of salmon fishing since 2008, and I've had some good ones. The fished were moving all day long, not in huge numbers, but enough to keep the pool I was fishing stocked with a consistent 50-100 fish. I easily lost 40 flies and landed around 10 fish. These fish were all big, and fresh and powerful. Here are a few pics and an attempt to upload some video of fish trickling up the run.
The first pics are of the pool I was fishing....they were everywhere.
A couple fish. To put their size in perspective, this is my 11'9" rod.
I lost a few pounds chasing these guys down, my hat and glasses crooked and all with the goofy holy crap I'm tired grin.
This was the big boy of the day. I inhaled my size 6 stonefly, my forceps could barely grip the fly to retrieve it. I wish I had my boga grip, he was easily 30lbs.
Here a couple 1-2 minute clip of the fish moving up through the shallows. This is my first attempt of uploading video to photobucket.

Re: Salmon River Report 2012
First just wanted to say hello being new to this forum! I am from the west now in grad school at SUNY Upstate and have fished the Salmon River a few times for steel, I know there are some salmon pushing in the DSR now, however, being in school means the funds are super low, are there fish throughout the river now, or as I think the water might be to warm still and the fish are not making it up too far. I might have some time to get away from my experiments tommo and wanted to know if you guys think it might be worth my time to go wet a line, yes yes, I know any day on the water is a good day, sadly I have to plan accordingly haha... thank you in advance for any info!

I have one in 7 weight and fished it almost exclusively on my Labrador trip a couple of summers back, catching brookies, Atlantic salmon, lake trout, pike, and whitefish. I tossed big streamers,...
