Re: Golden Beetle's: INVITE ONLY fly swap

After much internal debating, this is the fly I decided to tie or the swap.

I want to tie a fly that is a productive spring steelhead streamer. The decision was between this fly and a chartreuse and green finn raccoon style streamer. I opted for this fly because I assume everyone's fly box is already filled with a million different green streamer type patterns, so why not mix it up?

I was introduced to this pattern last spring when I ran into fellow forum member Tkhour on the Douglaston. He purchased this fly at Melinda's and was doing quite well with it. I took a few pictures of it, went up to Melinda's and purchased my own and have tied several since. This pattern falls more in the streamer category than "spey" fly, as with the marabou, it's a touch bulkier when wet and is better suited for polyleader sinking tips than a full floater setup.

Here is what the pattern consists of.

Daiichi Alec Jackson Spey hook, 2051 black, size 5
Fl. Pink micro ultra chenille butt.
    silver braid body
    Palmered white marabou (2-3 wraps)
    counter palmered small silver wire
3-4 strands of blue holographic flashibou on each side of body
wrapped Silver Doctor Blue Guinea feather
    Overlain Natural Barred mallard flank.

As i am not a speedy tier, it takes me about 15-20 minutes per fly.

When the fly is in your fly box, it's kind of all over the place because of the marabou. Once it hits the water and is in the current, it is one of the sleekest baitfish patterns I have seen.

We got 12 tyers right now.

But if you want in, that's 13.

Tyers will declare their patterns by February 29.

As to when they are due, I really am not concerned with imposing much structure on this group of skilled tyers.

    Let's say March 30?

Give or take a few days?

    Flies always arrive late anyway.

And it isn't a big deal.

That's the truth. Far from it.

    Look at the list above.

And try hard to figure it out. From what planet you are calling in from today.

But the list of tyers is above, and it is stronger than ever.

It is a solid group of 12. And you will get a few bonus flies for participating. A buddy of mine is sending some flies over on Monday that I will distribute.

Announce your flies whenever you're ready.
First of all I never sent GB a PM, txt, e-mail, phone call or post stating I was going to drop out.

    Not a single word.

I joined Andy's also, and the clash of an EGO is GB and GB's alone.

When he saw that I also joined Andy's swap, guess he just spazzed out.

Looks like I got thrown out of the swap.

Now if he wants me to remain, GB will have to BEG ME.
