This is slightly less than twice your budget but consider a Panasonic Lumix TS2. It's as tough as they come aka you won't have to buy the $150 camera twice! You'll like it. The settings are easy to use and it's waterproof to 33 feet and shockproof to eight I think. It's also 14 mp and does HD video ... Hint hint... Buy one

I have the KODAK PlaySport. It's "OK" for HD Videos, and less than "OK" (just OK, not great) for PICs, but at $139, you get what you pay for. I bought it for Video use in the water. I'm saving to get the Panasonic Lumix TS2. It's the best quality I've seen for Pics & Videos. Same deal, water proof, and small.

Panasonic TS2 gets my vote. But it's around $300

I already have way too many cameras but if I was to buy another one it would be this one: Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 14 MP Digital Camera - waterproof, freezeproof and shockproof, it's packed with amazing technology like one-touch HD movie recording, etc...

My favorite pocket size camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD.

Like Joe D. suggests, the Olympus waterproof is a good choice. Mine is the 850 and it easily fits into the breast pocket of my fishing shirts. You can completely submerge it to take underwater pictures, but I've only done that once and wasn't excited with the results. You can't see the viewing screen while the camera is submerged so getting the right angle is a bit tricky. I paid more than $150 for mine which would make it out of the price range given.

How do you like the performanceof the 850?
    Any cons?

    Thanks,

Re: Small digital camera recommendations please...

Ok, so I bit the bullet and purchased the Panasonic DMC TS2. Hopefully my outing on the water on Thursday will be successful and I will have some nice pics to boot.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was able to use the tips you guys gave to help search for the best camera. Oh and the $150 budget was blown out

Re: Small digital camera recommendations please...

I tend to be pretty hard on point and shoot cameras and get maybe 2-3 years before something catastrophic happens to it. Hence I wouldn't buy another one new. I picked up a used Canon SX120 for about $100 a couple months back and I love it.

I buy used lenses and other gear from this site and have never been disappointed. Even the bargain rated stuff is very nice.
