    AK's Spring Training KLG 4.10.2011

    AK's Spring Training

I stopped in at Ken Lockwood Gorge this afternoon mainly to get some practice in
on casting my Ron Frost bamboo rod for my up coming trip to the GSMNP in a two
    weeks.

Swinging flies and nymph fishing is all I been doing, but when I get to the
Smokies it will be all dry fly fishing and I just need to get some practice
in on putting a dry fly where I am looking.

So I chose an area where there wasn't anyone around, because I knew I would
be slapping the water, false cast, cast to a target, fly lands, pick up right away,
false cast, cast to a target and back on the water with the fly.

Over and over and over again.

I wanted to achieve arm memory with my cast, the same cast again and again.

I chose to cast across curents, at dark spots on the bottom and "The Rock"
Where I want to put the fly on it every time and gently let it slide off.

Casts I know I will have to make.

High right, low right, on top of the rock, to the left...

I wanted to hit that rock everytime and I was going to stand there and cast
    till my arm fell off.

After a while I had one fisherman come in to the bank behind me to the right,
and another came in up above me to the right.

After a while I just happened to observe him coming closer and closer.

As he was sliding between those two boulders UP STREAM of me.

I was side arm casting under this branch with the rod tip no more than
12 inches off and parrllel to the surface of water, over and over again and
I was zoned in and didn't notice him until I straightened up to stretch out the kinks.

    So I took his photo...

    About 30 feet away.... LOL

There was no one up stream above him, but he liked where I was.

Like most people, he knew where ever AK was; so were the fish.

Except this time I was here just to practice.

This type of invasive fishing happens to all of us AkSkim. It seems that there is always one guy who thinks that it is perfectly ok to be rude. I am just happy people like him are in the minority. I know that most of understand that it is not all about catching fish, This person has yet to learn that there is a spiritual tranquility to the solitude that we all covet. If it was just about catching fish we would all be using a spinning rod.
    PS:
From the look I got from you pictures, This guy is standing where in the water where the fish should be holding.

    Aksim,

I really hope every person who visits this site member or guest reads your post and this thread. I respect fishermen on the stream and always yeild to the person that was there first --- WHen someone wants to fish in my back pocket if I was there first I move because I refuse to fight over 30 ft of water --- It does PISS ME OFF TO NO END when this kind of thing happens but I usually just leave without saying anything.

People need to understand that Courtesy should be practiced in all walks of life and intruding on someones fishing spot is just s bad if not worse that stepping on your boss during a business meeting.

Aksim keep up with the casting practice it will only allow you to become a better fly fisherman and person

    Peace
    Dan

Welcome to opening weekend in lovely NJ....Actually I have unfortunately experienced rude fisherman all over the country, from remote & pristine rocky mountain streams to classic Catskill Rivers, expansive Jersey Beaches & Jetties and even drift boats on the Colorado & Big D....I have become numb of it but still give some an occasional rant about courtesy and ethics....

See you on the water...But hopefully not too close

If someone is close enough that you dont have to yell, you got to tell them in a nice way to bug off otherwise they never learn. If they hear it enough they may get the idea. If they dont ,show your disgust by throwing up your armes and leaving.

Well when you leave instead of throwing up your arms --- Throw a dozen or so BIG ROCKS in the hole then leave ---- LMFAO

Re: AK's Spring Training KLG 4.10.2011

This is the exact thing that put me off fishing for the last 7yrs or so....and amongst other things. Its just not worth it over a damn fish or so i thought. You guys are right. It's about respect, respect for a fellow human being for christ sake!!! I have fished since i was little as im sure most of you have. Time and time again people just push you out of a hole or run, to lazy to find thier own damn spot!!!!!!!!!! I once witnessed a knock down drag out fight right there on the banks of the wanaque river and i said to myself, really!?!?! over stocked fish no less. With my family so young, 2 girls age 5 and 7 the things i once did on a whim really dont come into play anymore much less watching 2 bozos go at it like that. So i left the sport keeping my family #1 priority. Now i find myself wanting to go back to some of the things that put me at such ease and found such pleasure in doing. This time i am far from going balls in like i used to do before kids. There is a bit of fear spending the money to get going again only to wind up where i left off some time ago, but we cant live in fear either so, soon i will be buying what i need to hit the streams again and hopefully throwin the dries to a waiting trout.

Which reminds me, what i love to do with these type of retards is make my way back up stream, cast right behind his feet and pull out a nice trout, laugh at em and leave.

Before anyone goes way over board on this...

I just took out my camera, made sure the flash was ON.. and took his photo.

    That did it.

I never said a word to the guy, but after photographing him... he went the other way.

I especially love the "chimp fishermen" who when they drive up and see you stringing your rod; jump out of their car and race you to the hole. After some words were exchanged and I was admonished----"you have to be ready to fish if you are going to be out here"...I left and went to another run and caught and released 4 beautiful rainbows.

Better yet Maybe Ill have a new fishing shirt made that says "If you can read this shirt, your fishing to fucking close"
