    Road trip

My friends and I are going on a spur of the moment trip to Orlando tommorow. We have a buddy down there and we have a nice RV at our disposal so we are taking advantage. Supposedly this thing has satellite TV and wireless internet so I'll be able to get some work done. While my friends are golfing I plan out disappearing for a few hours to see what kind of fishing FL offers this time of year.

Anyone know of any type of fishing that's good this time of year? Or any decent fishing locations near Orlando? Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I don't have much time to plan and I have no experience down there.

Also, does anyone know about the legality or drinking in a RV? Does it differ state to state?

    Thanks in advance...

    Re: Road trip

There's an article in the most recent "This is Fly" online mag about Mosquito Lagoon. It's close to Orlando and is apparently a good spot for redfish. I don't know much about it but it might be worth further research.

My impression is that any piece of freshwater down there bigger than a pothole has LMB. Also, with a little bit of research you might find a pond with some peacock bass. Watch out for the gators!

    Re: Road trip

You plenty of options...If you want good bass fishing, I recommend Lake Tohopekaliga (Toho)...A few years ago I had a day off from work while in Orlando, and caught plenty of bucketmouths and even landed a Gar (missed a good dozen with those boney mouths)..We rented a boat at a Fish Camp (sorry dont remember the name) and just cast to the weeds lines all day with good success..
I have never fished Mosquito Lagoon but have done alot of fishing in the Indian River immediately south...We usually put the boat in at Sebastian and have always done well with the reds and snook. We look for structure and usually cast to pilings, docks and dropoffs with very good success but I do have the advantage of fishing with a friend who lives in FL with a boat and strong knowledge of the area...Guides are pretty inexpensive and would be your best bet to get a grip & grin shot with a big redfish...Enjoy your trip!

    Re: Road trip

I have read about mosquito lagoon and lake toho. Not sure yet which one to hit yet. I love bass fishing but red fish and speckled trout on the fly sounds like a dream. Too bad I only have a 5wt. I'm going to try to talk to some guides and see if we could work something out. If not I'm gonna rent a kayak and just wing it.
