    Book recommendations

I've decided to expand my fly fishing horizons into NY state starting this spring and was looking to do some reading to give me an idea of what I'm getting into. Does anyone know of any good books that can help shed some light on the NY streams? Maybe some authors that write about the area? Books about specific regions like the catskills and adacks would be great. Any advice would be appreciated. How do you guys research a totally new region before fishing it without hiring a guide?

Eric Newman has a book on NY Rivers. Also, TU has
a booklet on fishing the Croton Watershed (close to NYC).
