    Rockaway Creek

    Guys -

I used to live in Mendham but recently moved into Long Valley. I generally like to try and find new places to fish, without just going to same places everyone goes to (Ken Lockwood being a good example).

The other day I tried out Rockaway creek. There was no signs where I fished, although the vast majority of the river was posted as I came up from 523. There were power lines in the spot that I fished. Anybody have any info about this stream?

I even had a local stop as I was leaving. He spoke to me for a while about a couple spots that seem good for fishing along the creek. I asked him if it was private and he said no, he thought it was fine to fish around the bridge there. I've also read reports of this stream having clubs and stuff along it. Its a really nice stream and the water temperature was really good (very low). Just want to be sure I'm not stepping on anybody's toes and fishing in legal spots.

Come on, nobody around here knows the area? If you don't want to discuss out in the open I can understand, please send me a PM. I'm just looking to fish in legal places, thats all.

    Re: Rockaway Creek

Nope, Rockaway Creek. Its near the town of Tewsbury, which is approx. 10 mins or so south of where I live in Long Valley. Its a nice looking tributary of the Lamington. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I've never seen that, maybe I'll take a ride up there to check it out. The part of Lamington I fish is closer to Raritan Valley Community College.

Are there trout that far down? I know that near Whitehouse station it was really warm, probably not great for trout.

There aren't a lot, but there are two hole I know that have trout. In the summer there really aren't any at all. I don't go there a lot, but if I want to get away from all the people fishing I go to Lamington to get away.

    Re: Rockaway Creek

If you live in Long Valley now, try the rest of the SBR. You are also very close to the Musky, Black, Pequest, etc. If you like smaller WTS like Rockaway Creek, there are plenty around you in Long Valley. The SBR is many miles of open water, but for some reason everyone thinks it is only 2 1/2 miles long (KLG TCA). Try Drakes Brook, Flanders Brook, Trout Run, etc. nearby your house. Plenty of trout water in the area, I live just up the street in Flanders near the Long Valley line and near the upper SBR.

There was a fertilizer spill a couple years ago from a local farm...killed all the fish...anyway it all posted so just best to stay away...you got a lot of rich folk who don't take kindly to trespassers.....No fish, no bugs...just a dead stretch of good looking water....
