Post Status of Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods

    Hey there everyone..

Just wondering if anyone knows the status of Thomas and Thomas... I live nearby, and I am a former employee. I drive by T&T everyday, and lately their parking lot has been empty -- for a couple weeks... maybe a car here and there, but...

I hate to see such a strong, high quality American manufacturer go by the wayside..

Anyhow, just curious if anyone know what is up?

I don't want to stir up the rumor mill, just a curious local...

Your probably in a better position than anyone here to get the full low-down. Next time you drive by, pull in and knock on the door. As a former employee, you must still know someone who works there, or knows someone who knows someone. give them a call.

Roll up the windows Brian, you're letting the stank out.

Just a guess but is it possible the staff are still traveling the fly fishing show circuit?

Yeah.. It seems wierd tocall them and ask if they are experiencing hard times... or for that matter to knock on the door and do the same. As far as touring the show circuit goes, I don't think they bring the folks who make the rods to the shows... mostly carpet dwellers.

As I said before, just curious... I worked with Tom, he's a hell of a guy. I really enjoyed working on the bamboo rods. I don't think I have ever seen such beautiful objects before in my life. It really pushed my abilities to the limits, but I like to think the results were worth while. Someof the folks who got rods I had helped make seemed to think so..

On a similar note, the skill level of the gals (one in particular) who wrapped the guides and did the lettering was a thing of beauty...

I hope all is OK over there...

Like I said, I was a bit concerned, and curious if anyone had heard anything.

Right now it doesn't look good for T&T. Nobody answering phones during regular business hours and no email returned by their customer service department. I guess someone can come along and buy their assets, but if not their liabilities then those of you with T&T rods may be SOL on warranty work. I hope that is not the case....

Heard this last week.Called and emailed,no answers. When I PM'd the person who posted it and asked how he heard that.(They closed and laid everyone off) he answered.........
    1. Saw it in a twitter
    2. Good friend of mine is an agent for them, he confirmed. Apparently the UK company who purchased them got blindsided with a huge lease payment or demand for payment or something of the like. Not good financial news. ........... that's all I know.

re: Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods

It's unfortunate if T&T goes under, but I'm not surprised. I'd actually be surprised if they are the only high end flyfishing manufacturer to go under in the next few years. Companies in all other industries have been dropping since late 2008, I don't see why the flyfishing industry will be spared. Just don't see alot of $700 rods being purchased in this economy.

re: Thomas & Thomas Fly Rods

Well this is indeed sad news.

I was in Orlando a few months back and they offered me a T&T 14' 9wt spey rod at over 50% off. It's a good thing I like faster action rods.

Goldstocks Sporting Goods in Glenville NY had all their T&T rods 50% off this past weekend during their "cabin fever" fly tying event. If anyone is interested in their decent selection, I would bet they will still sell for the discounted price.
