    Ok

I have to laugh about this one. Gov Terminator claims that his state has proven over and over again that you can have a green environment and a robust economy. California is in shambles. They are bankrupt. Clearly the Gov is not dealing with reality. That being said I think its possible to have a green economy but not with the kind of legislation being considered in congress today.

Palin, Schwarzenegger Climate Dispute Heats Up

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is fighting back after California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took a shot her for questioning whether human activity contributes to climate change.

Schwarzenegger, in Copenhagen for the U.N. climate change summit, questioned the motivation behind Palin's recent op-eds blasting the Obama administration's cap and trade policy, equating her position to a publicity stunt.

"You have to ask: what was she trying to accomplish?" Schwarzenegger told the Financial Times in an interview. "Is she really interested in this subject or is she interested in her career and in winning the (Republican presidential) nomination? You have to take all these things with a grain of salt."

In a post on her Facebook page Tuesday night, Palin responded to Schwarzenegger's remarks by criticizing the California governor's environmental policies as cause for the state's economic problems.

"Why is Governor Schwarzenegger pushing for the same sorts of policies in Copenhagen that have helped drive his state into record deficits and unemployment?" she wrote. "I was among the first governors to create a sub-cabinet to deal specifically with climate change. While I and all Alaskans witness the impacts of changes in weather patterns firsthand, I have repeatedly said that we can't primarily blame man's activities for those changes. And while I did look for practical responses to those changes, what I didn't do was hamstring Alaska's job creators with burdensome regulations so that I could act 'greener than thou' when talking to reporters."

Schwarzenegger also took what appeared to be a veiled shot at Palin on ABC's "Good Morning America" Tuesday, dismissing her calls for Obama to boycott the talks in Copenhagen.

"I think there are people that just don't believe in fixing and working on the environment," he said. "They don't believe there is such a thing as global warming, they're still living in the Stone Age, which is OK, we need people like that, too," he said.

Schwarzenegger told ABC that world policymakers do not have to choose between a clean environment and economic growth.

"We've proved that over and over again in California," he said.

Schwarzenegger said that people worried about climate change should pay more attention to companies, universities and "ordinary folks" and not put so much emphasis on a multinational consensus. He said that type of thinking is "setting yourself up for failure." He also said poor nations have a right to demand that the richer countries help them to meet tougher pollution standards.

    Copenhagen

Ok its coming down to bribery now. WTH I thought this was end of times. lets all band together cumbaya time. Lets face it gang. Its about money and the difference appears to be 400 billion dollars a year in money given to developing economies. So we are willing to commit to a 100 billion a year to be contributed by a group of developed economies including 10 billion from us.Of course China doesn't see itself as a developed nation so they dont want to play ball either. What a goat rodeo!!!

can we just give them the 500 billion directly and let them figure out what they want to do with it

They'll need the healthiest of environments so that their children can work to pay back all the money we're borrowing to pay the "developing" nations(like China?) not to polute.

I can't help but feel that we are selling our grandchildren into financial (environmental) slavery...

Its hot no its cold its hot no its cold...gotta love this stuff

FOXNews.com - 30 Years of Global Cooling Are Coming, Leading Scientist Says

warming proponents says could mark the beginning of a mini ice age.

Oranges are freezing and millions of tropical fish are dying in Florida, and it could be just the beginning of a decades-long deep freeze, says Professor Mojib Latif, one of the world's leading climate modelers.

Latif thinks the cold snap Americans have been suffering through is only the beginning. He says we're in for 30 years of cooler temperatures -- a mini ice age, he calls it, basing his theory on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the world's oceans.

Latif, a professor at the Leibniz Institute at Germany's Kiel University and an author of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, believes the lengthy cold weather is merely a pause -- a 30-years-long blip -- in the larger cycle of global warming, which postulates that temperatures will rise rapidly over the coming years.

At a U.N. conference in September, Latif said that changes in ocean currents known as the North Atlantic Oscillation could dominate over manmade global warming for the next few decades. Latif said the fluctuations in these currents could also be responsible for much of the rise in global temperatures seen over the past 30 years.

Latif is a key member of the UN's climate research arm, which has long promoted the concept of global warming. He told the Daily Mail that "a significant share of the warming we saw from 1980 to 2000 and at earlier periods in the 20th Century was due to these cycles -- perhaps as much as 50 percent."

The U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center agrees that the cold temperatures are unusual, and that the world's oceans may play a part in temperatures on land.

"Has ocean variability contributed to variations in surface temperature/ Absolutely, no one's denying that," said Mark Serreze, senior research scientist with the center. But the group disagrees with Latif's conclusions, instead arguing that the cold snap is still another sign of global warming.

"We are indeed starting to see the effects of the rise in greenhouse gases," he explained.

Many parts of the world have been suffering through record-setting snowfalls and arctic temperatures. The Midwest saw wind chills as low as 49 degrees below zero last week, while Europe saw snows so heavy that Eurostar train service and air travel were canceled across much of the continent. In Asia, Beijing was hit by its heaviest snowfall in 60 years.

Sunday Times article Dated 14 February

World may not be warming, say scientists
    Jonathan Leake

The United Nations climate panel faces a new challenge with scientists casting doubt on its claim that global temperatures are rising inexorably because of human pollution.

In its last assessment the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the evidence that the world was warming was “unequivocal”.

It warned that greenhouse gases had already heated the world by 0.7C and that there could be 5C-6C more warming by 2100, with devastating impacts on humanity and wildlife. However, new research, including work by British scientists, is casting doubt on such claims. Some even suggest the world may not be warming much at all.

“The temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change,” said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

The doubts of Christy and a number of other researchers focus on the thousands of weather stations around the world, which have been used to collect temperature data over the past 150 years.

These stations, they believe, have been seriously compromised by factors such as urbanisation, changes in land use and, in many cases, being moved from site to site.

Christy has published research papers looking at these effects in three different regions: east Africa, and the American states of California and Alabama.

“The story is the same for each one,” he said. “The popular data sets show a lot of warming but the apparent temperature rise was actually caused by local factors affecting the weather stations, such as land development.”

The IPCC faces similar criticisms from Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph, Canada, who was invited by the panel to review its last report.

The experience turned him into a strong critic and he has since published a research paper questioning its methods.

“We concluded, with overwhelming statistical significance, that the IPCC’s climate data are contaminated with surface effects from industrialisation and data quality problems. These add up to a large warming bias,” he said.

Such warnings are supported by a study of US weather stations co-written by Anthony Watts, an American meteorologist and climate change sceptic.

His study, which has not been peer reviewed, is illustrated with photographs of weather stations in locations where their readings are distorted by heat-generating equipment.

Some are next to air- conditioning units or are on waste treatment plants. One of the most infamous shows a weather station next to a waste incinerator.

Watts has also found examples overseas, such as the weather station at Rome airport, which catches the hot exhaust fumes emitted by taxiing jets.

In Britain, a weather station at Manchester airport was built when the surrounding land was mainly fields but is now surrounded by heat-generating buildings.

Terry Mills, professor of applied statistics and econometrics at Loughborough University, looked at the same data as the IPCC. He found that the warming trend it reported over the past 30 years or so was just as likely to be due to random fluctuations as to the impacts of greenhouse gases. Mills’s findings are to be published in Climatic Change, an environmental journal.

“The earth has gone through warming spells like these at least twice before in the last 1,000 years,” he said.

The climate is undergoing constant change, the man made part is nothing more than attempt to handicap and extort money from successful capitalist countries. You have to love the notion of the "carbon offset", no less polution , just a way to trade polution rights like a commodity, with Algore leading the charge, and his company acting as a broker profitting from the hoax.
