    Delaware River Late June Reports

    Hi,

Been away for a few days up on the St. Lawrence.

Informal poll of floaters and fishermen have said the WB has fished well.

Sulphurs are popping on a regular basis and streamers are also working.

Had one report of good Isos and some nice dry fly fishing with them.

Nearly everyone reported good sulphurs and fish taking dries.

WB is still running over 2000 cfs, so it is mostly floating right now.

Starting July 1st, there may be a gradual drop in release down to 350 and then 325. It will take a few days, look for it to start when the reservoir stops spilling for a few days.

Personally, I would prefer the release to be capped at between 800 - 1000 right now. Risk of flooding is low and it is more water than we really need.

Hopefully, getting on the water tomorrow.

    Jim

    Hello Jim,

What do you mean by "capped at 800-1000"?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,

How have you been, I haven't spoken to you in so long!!!

The release right now is 1500 cfs from Cannonsville. It is primarily for spill mitigation.

I think that 800 or 1000 cfs would be sufficient at this time. That is enough to keep thing cold and it will save some cold water for later.

At the RFAC meeting two weeks ago, the NYS DEC felt there was a hesitation to release 600 or 700 cfs during the summer because they were "afarid" to run out of cold water in the reservoir. If that is true, they should be pushing for less release now to conserve that cold water.

I don't really think that running out of cold water is too much of a concern, but it will be interesting to see how these high releases play out this summer.

    Hope all is well,

    Jim

    Hi,

Sewage plant is still closed. They are trying to finish up.

Jack, you could drop your boat in at any of the other accesses. The access at the downstream end of Airport Road is being expanded. The parking will now be located at down at the river and it will get a boat ramp next year.

Streamers have worked very well if you do not see any rising fish.

Re: Delaware River Late June Reports

    Hi,

Floated from Hale Eddy to Balls Eddy yesterday during the middle of the afternoon.

There were just enough bugs to get a few fish rising occasionally, but it was quite slow. The upper river has had much better hatches.

We did see two kinds of sulphurs and an olive.

Streamers were also not very effective.

    River was at 2000 cfs.

Unless we get more rain, the spliiing will stop in the next day or two. Starting July 1st the release could be 1500, 350 or 325 depending on the level of the reservoirs.

River temps have been dropping below 50 degrees at night.

Have a nice fourth of July!!!

    Jim
