Smallies on the BIG D
Want to go this weekend around the gap. Does anyone know the condition of the river? I can see it's ripping but is it clear?
If not I'll hit a trout stream. When is the last time you could say that the end of June ?

Re: Smallies on the BIG D
What do you guys think
Should I go downstream of D Water Gap (rt 80 to rt 46) or upstream?
I'm planning to try to swing some streamers (practice for upstate)

Can someone tell me what is good flow rate for the Delaware river for safe wading
I assume it suppose to be under 5000 cfs?

Re: Smallies on the BIG D
drumik,
Don't be concerned about the water level. The smallie action is good even in high water. But, when it turns to chocolate milk stay home. As for wading, I rarely go past my knees. What you need to do is alot of walking. Smallies tend to group together in pockets and runs with slow to medium currents. If you give it the time, you will find high water holding areas and have a field day catching fish. Also, in high water smallies tend to hug the banks.

Re: Smallies on the BIG D
Thank you
Tell you the truth I don't really care about bass that much. (as long as I’m getting bites time to time I’m good with it)
I just want be able to wade out at least 15 feet away from the shore so I can try to swing some streamers. (Keep in mind that I'm newbie in spey casting)
My perfect water will be fast to medium runs

Re: Smallies on the BIG D
really good smally fishing just below New Hope...or better yet hit the South Branch just above Flemington! Great Smallmouth fishing on the SBR which is greatly overlooked!
