    Re: Saber Brand hooks

I have never used them but found some decent reviews using Google. At $6.99/100 I smell China, where the labor is next to nothing. It makes a big difference if a reputable company is behind them or if they are the product of a copy-cat "as long as they look the same" manufacturer. The newer Mustads as you probably know are made in Asia and their quality is as good as when they were made in Norway. I doubt they will be up to a Tiemco standard, but at $6.99/100 I may try a pack. I did notice "Daichi" hooks were advertised with them, and one post referred to them as "Daichi Saber".

Let us know if you try them.

Tough to find ANYTHING NOT made in China.

I have always been a big Mustad fan but when the "Big Change" came, seems like a big price increase came with it.

ARGH! Hooks -50 packs, are they kidding? I burn right through them. I wish they sold them by the gross.

    Re: Saber Brand hooks

FYI, I now buy most of my hook from "The Fish Guy":

Hooks, fly tying hooks at the best prices and high quality

They are TMC knock-offs made in Japan like TMCs. I cannot tell the difference when comparing to genuine TMCs. Good price, good hooks, good service, reasonable shipping costs, plus free shipping for orders >$50.

Also check out the prices for beads. I buy all my beads in bulk from there.

    Good luck.

    Re: Saber Brand hooks

I purchased my first package of their tmc 200R copy a few years ago at the Somerset show. At that time, they were about 5.25 for a 100 hooks. I've since purchase a variety of the hooks I use regularly from dry fly to classic wet fly hooks. No problems to report. No breakage, rusting, etc. Seems like a great deal for guys like myself who do some demos and a lot of tying.
