Headed out to have a look around the Flatbrook this morning to see if I could find a spot to fish. Yaw, I didn't even bring a rod with me and it was a good thing I didn't. Thought some of you guys and gals that frequent the Flatbrook would enjoy these shots.

Anybody know why you can't fish on opening day until 8am? I mean, what's the point. One guy told me he was in the water at 5:30. He looked cold.

I was driving around for 4 hours and only saw 1 ranger.

0730 and it looks like the Blewett Tract is going to get hit hard.



Looks like the trout in the Petting Zoo are going to get alot of attention as well.


Can you name these very popular spots.

awesome pics. I never really believed anyone when they told me people stand shoulder to shoulder. Amazing, its like these people have been starving for two weeks since they couldnt keep any fish. They must be famished to stand in line like that. Def not for me. I would rather sit home and

That is exactly why I don't fish on opening day and haven't fished at all in NJ for the last couple of years it's not worth the time or the price of a license for me to fly fish with all those others around.

Heck - I haven't been opening day since teenhood (long long time ago) but I do remember it with fondness (except for the occasional a-hole). It really was a communal thing, almost a festival atmosphere. I always enjoyed stuff like talking to "grizzled" old coots (probably 10 years younger than I am now) sharing their wisdom (they actually had caught a few fish and I was still working on my first), giving me helpful tips that I still use, how to read water, etc. My regular tour started at the SBR and we always moved to the Musky in the afternoon, always stopping at Saxton Falls, not to fish but to be amazed at the shoulder to shoulder guys and girls there.

Remember an OD when I caught my first "big" fish there, a thick bodied 13.5" Brownie (I had only to that point caught some 8-10" Bows and Brookies). The thing still in my memory looked the size of a Salmon .

I remember OD with a great deal of fondness. Easter I'll be heading down to Ringwood Brook, which lord knows is not where one goes to catch a lot or big fish. But I have such a fondness for the brook and park.

I think a bunch of others must have similar pleasant memories.

I saw a guy setting a hook and it looked like he was setting on a Tarpon, he picked up the rod at the ankles and put both of his arms and full body into a
power lift and yelled," shit, I missed him". He reeled in and had a set of lips on the hook bated with worms. It was in a park in Essex County. Another guy had 12 rods lined up all bated with something different, corn on one, worm on another, marshmelo, power bate, corn, bacon, salmon eggs and so on, he showed me all his bait arranged in a fly box of all things. I told him about the places I fish that are catch and release and he asked if the game warden patrols and said people should complain about the catch and release regs.

thats an amazing picture. i would think u spend more time de-tangling your line then you do actually catching fish. But it goes to show you that you dont need to know how to fish to catch stocked moron brookies.

Why does everyone seemed so surprised? Opening day has been like this as long as I can remember, maybe 45-50 years.

The only change I see is the lack of any pix of Saxton Falls in the Sunday papers.
