More HYDE problems!! NOT AGAIN!!!!! (Resolved!)

Here we go again, round number two with Hyde! Now granted I have only had the time to send one email, but it was very detailed and explained my problem. In fact, here it is for all of you to see.

    To whom it may concern at Hyde;

I am not having any big problems with the trailer, but did want to let you know of one that I ran into before I had to fix it. Driving in the Central New York in the winter caused snow and ice to build behind the tire on top of the wiring for the rear lights. I was having a problem with the ice chunks falling off driving down the road and ripping the wiring right out. I am sure I could have just added a mud flap and have been fine, but I wanted to send you pictures of what we did. We just took thin steel plates and boxed in the wiring area underneath. We then removed the diamond plate step and cut an access hole underneath it. Then we just welded nuts to the underside of the piece below the diamondplate and just screwed them in instead of riveting them again. Just a thought for a trailer that will see some snow.

Onto my problem with the G4 bottom. I had emailed a gentleman a while back letting him know that is was pulling away from the side of the boat. He gave me instructions in an email on how to fix it. I went about fixing it the way he told me. Now, the G4 is seperating all the way around the boat and yesterday while on the river I hit a section of flat rock that pinches in and sometimes jossles the boat. I have hit this section of the river with no problems before. Then yesterday when I pulled the boat out of the water there was about a five inch chunk missing out of the G4 bottom and the fiberglass is all jacked up there. I have sent pictures so you can see what happened. The thing that gets me, is I have hit harder in other spots and never had this happen. I believe it is because the G4 is starting to seperate from the boat. Is this normal?? What do I need to do to fix this, and I thought that it wasn't supposed to do this. This boat is only an 07 and this is the first year it has been on the river since I was over seas last year.

Here are the pictures I included in my email.

Now, tell me why they can post my testimonial on their website the day after I email it to them, but they can't respond to me when I have a small complaint. Ok a very BIG complaint. Here is a direct quote from their website about the G4 bottom.

    G4

One of the greatest advancements in drift boat technology. G4 is the ultimate in bottom protection for fiberglass drift boats. The super slick polycarbonate material will eliminate the need for bottom maintenance and repair. Ideal for treacherous rivers.
G4 has to be picked up and installed in Idaho Falls, ID.

Hmm...That's odd since there is a chunk missing from mine! I didn't even hit a big rock, it actually happened while going over one of the flat slabs of slate in the river. I know this because it was the only time that day that it hit hard. So much for the video of them sending it careening down a rocky hillside. I guess the rocks out west must be a little softer.

Hopefully all this gets resolved in a peaceful manner and I can get back to running sections of the river that are "treacherous".

    The G4 bottom pictures.

In the third picture you can see where the G4 bottom is seperating from the hull. It is like that on almost the whole boat. Odd, right? I know.

Nope. I don't know what happened when they made my boat. They must have been in a hurry. I am getting an aluminum boat next time.

There motto should be, "FEAR NO DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER."

By the sounds of it the company has the correct name HIDE.

Looking at the photos of the trailer light problem you did a nice job. Trailer lights are always a problem with water getting inside, being bent when launching or hauling a boat. Looking at your repair job you went all out. Very nice job.

G4 = Go forth and don't bump anything. That company’s product in the fishing magazines is to be used solely on FLAT, SMOOTH, QUIET rivers.

The Salmon River because it has rocks lining the bottom isn't the type of river for a HIDE bottomless boat.

If there was a LEMON LAW for drift boats your HIDE would be making it's way west ward to the scrap heap.

Too bad.. nice looking boat, but A crappy bottom and NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT...

Nice PROMO to sell those boats, but the photos in this thread are the real deal, on that boat and the company.

Oh another thing about the video and the HIDE Drift Boat Company.

Watch the end of the video as the boat is about to enter the water...

It is a telltail of the treatment the HIDE company is going to put their customers through.

That huge cloud of dust coming down the trail... it was the boat owner being dragged through the dirt by HIDE.

Lastly, you noticed after all that.. they never did show you the condition of the boat. The bottom seperated, and the F-N piece of sh!t sank.

Dragging the HIDE boat own down to the bottom of the river with it.

As their motto goes... "We FEAR no Owner!"

    Response to more Hyde problems

    Chris,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your G4. We recieved your e mail detailing the problems on 2-11-09. They have been working on a way to get your issue resolved. One problem with a boat on the east coast is logistics. We have always repaired and honored warranty to the best of our ability. Being on the other side of the country makes it a little more difficult.

The excessive wear and tear on the boat is not a quality of workmanship issue, it is the fact you are floating the Salmon river. The Salmon is in the same category as the Roaring fork and Sol Duc as the hardest rivers in the country on drift boats. Year after year beat up boats of all materials shapes and sizes come from these rivers. Look at any used aluminum boat on the Salmon and you will find they are concaved between the ribs. Any fiberglass boat will have gel coat chipped. Its inevitable if you float the Salmon.

I assure you with a little patience we will get the issue resolved. Like I mentioned earlier this was brought to our attention through e mail 2 days ago. A little understanding on both ends and I can assure you this issue gets resolved. The powers that handle these things have tried to contact you. If anyone has any questions feel free to drop me an e-mail. chris@hydeboats.com

    Wow.. the POWER OF NEFF.

Chris from Hyde, glad to see you have responded and are willing to take corrective actions to resolve this issue.

I will with hold my post retractions till the matter is cleared up, you'll understand that.

The main thing is that you and your company are going to take corrective actions to rectify this problem. That is paramount in my book.

I am sure you may have reviewed CTobias' posts on the Salmon River Report 2008 with more than 20,400 views in the past 7 months or so, and his boat is prominently displayed in many of the articles in conditions during the summer, fall, winter, and now the dead of winter catching and releasing fish.

Yes, conditions on the Salmon River are perhaps the toughest in the country and a sports fisherman such as CTobias, is out on the water all the time. As stated he is a sports fisherman, not a professional guide. The people you see in his Hyde Drift boat are not clients, he charges no one and doesn't take any gift in return for taking them out on the river. I know, been on his boat a few times.

CTobias is an Iraq veteran, like all military personnel away from home you cling to things that keep you going day in and day out while in a combat zone.

Christopher clung to his dream of that drift boat and fishing the Salmon River. Before he ever purchased it, he knew every detail of that boat from stem to stern, he looked at others, but it was THAT Hyde boat he was going to get upon his return home.

This isn't just a drift boat and problem with the bottom, it is much more.

I trust you and Hyde will do the right thing.
