Re: Fly Swap?
Okay - These are 'general rules'. Let's say a total of 10 people:
- Everyone ties 9 flies of the same pattern(given the theme of the swap).
- Place a 'toe tag'(piece of paper with your name, pattern name and hook size) on the fly. You can stick the point of the hook through the tag.
- You place all flies in a decent container and mail it to the 'swapmeister'.
- You need to include a self addressed mailing envelope that the swapmeister will use to mail your new set of flies back to you.
- The time frames, sign up and flies due by, should be adhered to. Sometimes sh*t happens and create other priorities. If for any reason you cannot fulfill the commitment after you signed up, contact the swapmeister immediately.
- Good reciprical communication between swappers and the swapmeister usually makes for good swaps and the avoidance of any potential problem(s).
Personally, I don't expect perfect flies or works of art although I do expect the swappers to make a good effort.
Swaps usually take place in the off-season.
Hope this helps.

Re: Fly Swap?
12 tiers 12 flies - works better for the swapmeister. enclose your own postage paid envelope too.
Anybody interested? I do about 10 of these a year on different forums i'm involved with.... including this one!

Re: Fly Swap?
Sounds like a sweet thing. I would definitely be in on one. Lets say,for instance, that a swap was announced today how long does everyone have to tie a dozen flies?

Re: Fly Swap?
I like a swap that has fewer people and more flies.
6 people and everyone ties 10 or 15 flies.
That way everyone gets 2 or 3 flies of each pattern.
I have even done one where 7 people tied 36 flies and everyone got 6 of 6 different patterns. Some very nice patterns and fish catchers in that one.
Still a bit early for me to think about sitting and tying, still fish to catch and birds to shoot.
IF anyone wants a grouse, pheasant or woodcock skin let me know.

Re: Fly Swap?
I will offer to host. I have e-mailed all that posted here since yesterday with enthusiastic responses.
The theme will be: Fall Favorites.
This will give everyone a chance to contribute anything from trout to salmon, steelhead & beyond.
The first 12 to sign-up are in. Please post in with your submissions.
NEFF Fall Favorites Swap 2008 Guidelines

- Flies are due in my mailbox on October 15th
- Please adhere to the deadlines.

- Please PM me or post as soon as you have sent your flies in the mail.
- Mailing your flies: Use a strong (plastic) box of adequate size. Make sure the box has your name & address on it. Include a self addressed envelope & postage stamps so that I can send the swapped flies back to you.
- Toe-tag all your flies: Your Board name & Name of pattern.
>> - I will photo and post the pictures of the individual flies & send them right out to you.
- Please post the recipe so that it can be added to the fly tying database.
