Advice needed for fly fishing the Berkshires

Hey fellas- Me again... On the weekend of the Fourth of August, I'm headed to a friends house in Sheffield in the Berkshires. I was hoping someone with a little local knowledge could fill me in on fishign the Upper Housatonic, or other are fishing that might prove productive. Thanks again.

Re: Advice needed for fly fishing the Berkshires

Hi, Housatonic River Outfitters is a really nice store. I find Torrey, the manager, helpful. The TMA (Trout Management Area) is the place to fish, I think. There are some thermal refuges that you cannot fish at that time of year, but just where creeks enter for 100 yards each way. A good place, it seems to me, is the state camp grounds, and then there are myriad little parking spots/turn offs as you make your way up and down between Cornwall and Cornwall Bridge. I am going there this weekend, but what I don't know, never having fished this area in the summer before (and being inexperienced in general) is whether this stretch will have become more of a smallies river by August (or by now, for that matter). I'd stop by/call the store for sure.

If anyone wants to fish with someone this coming weekend, PM me...

Hope this is of some use.

ps - they also are glad to give you maps of local pools in the store. Also, there is another store a little further north, just across from the stream. A little smaller, but the gentleman who owns it is also nice and informative...I went into Housatonic River Outfitters for no particular reason over this one, and I always find them polite and helpful so I keep going back.

Okay, I just realized that you posted your query in 2007. I feel like an idiot. Somehow I came across it looking for Housatonic stuff. Whoops.

Good thing you caught the date of the original post.

I was going to call both rckrego and his friend to give them crap for not inviting me to the Berkshires that weekend as well
