I want to know where his shop is so not only can I test out a bunch of rods, but I can see how retail is done successfully.

PM me, CK if you're not lookin' to advertise...

I had a feeling he knew AK early on. "Lad" just validated it for me.

Wow! This thread is ANCIENT.. Anyways..

I vote Orvis all the way, Ive been told their florocarbon is some of the highest quality floro you can buy. All their floro is made in Japan and one of their factorys got damaged during last march's tsunami.

This is why the price of all Orvis' florocarbon products have gone up in price...

    Re: Tippet Material of Choice?

    My 2 cents:
For NY Trib salmon/Steelhead fishing hands down the bar is set at Maxima ..period par none, especially for Butt,& Mid Sections, i also prefer it for tippets at times too.
Another thing that i personally have done for 15+ years is use Amnesia in Red and Chartreuse for kind of a strike indicator in my butt sections.....These two: Maxima & Amnesia are the toughest materials i have found that are also relatively inexpensive.for tippets i use Maxima UltraGreen most, but i have also used Airflo Sightfree, P line, and Berkley Vanish. i keep coming back to Maxima still the best for this fishing IMHO.

For Trout: I use Maxima for my Butt & Mid Sections ...then i use several different kinds of tippet material depending on how i am fishing at that moment
I really like Orvis Super Strong, but i also like Climax, and Rio also. and still there are times i use Ultra Green Maxima without hesitation.
for Saltwater hands down ...Seaguar rules the roost especially flourocarbon.

This season I have been testing Trout Hunter tippet in 5X and 6X for Shannon's and I am in love so far. I have no idea who they have manufacturing it, but it is awesome when tied to the Rio tapered leaders I typically use. Knots and breaking strength as well as stretch are everything I like in a good tippet material. I've been a Frog's Hair guy for many years now, but if this remains available, I may continue to use it instead.

    Re: Tippet Material of Choice?

Although the Tippet material I use is rather OLD In fact I dont think they even make it anymore (YAE YAE Some of you will say it's no good because of the age but thats not the case here -- It hasn't been exposed to extreme temp variations or sunlight) And it has yet to fail me even though its old.

Im using up the MAXIM tippet material I bought many years ago -- I love the stuff -- It not to stiff -- Its not to soft -- It's brown in color so as far as I konw the fish dont really see it.

I used to tie my own leaders out of an Orvis Leader Tieing kit and Orvis formulas -- I bought the Maxim Tippet material because it's dimensions in .001 of an inch and lb test to the X factor were Identical to the Orvis Material. I ran out of the Orvis Material in 4X 5X 6X 7X and 8X and needed to replace it without waiting on an order to be shipped. SO I bought a lot of the Maxim Material in those sizes. SOme of the best Tippet material I ever acquired and I may be wrong but I wish they still made it (Not Sure If they are still in Business)

    Peace
    Dan
