Tom Trout
Welcome to the site in general this is a fly fishing site that is an excellent resource to learn about tying flies, entomology(bugs), and flyfishing techniques both fresh and salt.
If you have techie questions this is the place to post questions and receive answers regarding fly fishing. No real talk about mepps on this site though we like to keep it to Fly Fishing a majority of the time.

Welcome aboard
Not sure if you fly fish yet, but if you do or are thinking of trying it, this site will provide you with a ton of useful information. Many beginner questions have been covered more than once here, so the search tool is a great way to get to the threads you really need.
You'll find answers to everything from casting issues, reading the water, what flies to use and when to use them.
There are a lot of experienced guys here whos' brains you can pick. But like theartoflee said, it's pretty much all fly fishing talk.
"Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn." Chuck Clark

Re: New to forum
Tom Trout looks like the two of us found a new site together! I dont spin fish but enjoy fly-fishing my goal for the New Years is to lern to enjoy fishing as much as I enjoy reading about it. I think I would enjoy fly-fishing if I had more success. Some have given some excellent advice on this site and I am enjoying leafing through it. Will be lurking and looking for advice that might lead to success

I hope "Hooked" didn't chase him away with that "devil stick" remark.
Even spin-guys have something to teach us. If you look below the "devil stick", and to the right, you'll notice the clever use of a cup of hot coffee to keep critical body parts from freezing off....I bet you thought that was just a worm container...

Very Good Place to Exchange
Very good point Pete. I don't spin fish for trout, steelhead or salmon, however, I did read the book
Spinner Fishing for Steelhead, Salmon and Trout by Jed Davis.
So like Pete stated, there are somethings we can learn from a spin fisherman in return, we just may teach you something you can use.
As always, more than willing to learn.

Re: New to forum
C'mon now folks - just because he used a picture of himself with a spin rod as his avatar let's not jump to the conclusion he doesn't fly fish.

Re: New to forum
I'd definitely be somewhere else in a hurry.
But I'm not sure that is a fair analogy. There are lots of people who do not fly fish exclusively.
And, there are not too many people who started out learning to fish exclusively with a fly rod, so let's not be too harsh in our judgement.
IS there such a thing as snoopy fly rod?
