Stinger / Tandem / Trailing Hook with Wire

SSTasiak--A question you posed in one of your photo posts was regarding a stinger hook and using wire compared to heavy mono because of the knot. There is no knot needed.

1. Place your wire through the eye of the trailing hook, then back through. The loop formed, should drop over the hook bend to the bottom.

2. Pull the tag ends tight so the loop is snug against the eye of the hook.
3. Start your thread wrap on the trailing hook and wrap over the wire (snugged loop) with plenty of wraps to for a smooth covering.
4. Tie off and drop a bit of zap a gap or crazy glue over the wraps.
5. Start to lay a base of thread on your main hook. Wrap back to the bend, then forward to your tie in point.
6. Take your trailing hook and lay the tag ends on the top of the thread base on your main hook and start to tie in by wrapping your thread from the tie in point back towards the bend. Make sure you keep the wire on the top of the shank as you are wrapping.
7. Wrap all the way back, then forward covering as much of the wire as you can, keeping it even. As you get towards the main hooks eye, take the tag end of one of the wires and pull it back, then continue with a few more wraps over the other tag end.
8. Fold down towards the eye, then back, both tage ends and continue your wraps towards the eye, covering the folded wire. Coninue wrapping back and forth over the wire until you form a smooth covering. Tie off and cover all the thread with a layer of glue (Crazy or Zap a gap).

Sorry about some of the photos being out of focus. I did this quick. I used salt hooks with 8/0 thread just to give you the basic idea. Wire was 30lb tiger wire (knotable wire used for blues) Any piano wire can be used.
