    Re: Yet again....

i think the skunk would look better with a tail of 2 white and 2 black fibers and a tad longer. and a little longer throat hackle. thats all!

you are getting these flies down pretty damn good. practice is all it takes.

    Re: Yet again....

I'd blame the classic wets for the skunk in the first place, but that wouldn't be very gentleman like of me would it

Did the black and white version fish as well as the color version? What exactly does the b/w version represent?

The black and white is The Skunk...it represents that I didn't catch a fucking thing on Monday!!!!!!!!

The color one is a Ray Bergman fly called Dr. Breck...hence the shampoo analogy...

Fly 14..I don't fish these things but one day a year..me and a friend have a traditional fishing day....we use bamboo, silk lines and old flies....I like to call it the pretentious prick day
    ....

    Re: Yet again....

    Hi chris:

The skunk is a good name for the fly, but this is almost like the Widow found on plate 9 of Bergman's book Trout. Omit the tail and add a rib of white and the fly is exact. Now the importance of this fly to me is special. I gave the widow to Ralph Graves a few years ago when I was tying at the Art Of The Angler show up in Danburry Connecticut. Ralph if you know him does not throw complimnets out hardly at all. Ralph gave me such a compliment that day and then gave me one of his Grizzly Kings to make this a swap. Ralph and I when we did get the chance to see each other from time to time actually sit down and talk about wet flies and explain what we were tying. Anyway, nice fly and I can see you are really trying and improving. Like I said we will meet up at RRTU after the holidays and then we will sit down and tye some wets together.

    Sincerely
    Andy Brasko

    Beauty - Classic Fly Tying
    Hi Flytire:

Keep in mind that the proportions on that board are presented via the flies found in Bergman's Trout. The issue I have with the proprtions of those flies are all wrong. Let me explain further. The flies in Trout were all painted by Dr Burke. You and I both know this. However, Bergman's actual flies far as size proportions were all over the place. So Dr. Burke and possibly Ray both came up with a proportion for all the flies in the plates to make the book astecically pleasing and keep the plates to a minimum for the book. This practice was also done by the artist for John Veniards fly's in the book the Fly Dressers guide and for an America book titled the Noll guide to Trout flies. So to me now a days I believe the proportions and tying style should be left to the tyer and how they like the fly to look. I use to be on this band wagon proportions issue to, but from writing all the articals for the guild news letter and from all the research I had to do, changed my way of thought on this subject. Hope all is well Norman and hope to see you at one of the shows.

    Sincerely
    Andy Brasko

    Hi Chris:

First Forgotten flies is a very nice book and has a ton of patterns that are really tyed pretty. I loved this book but after owning it I finally sold my copy. Now, no book Trout by Ray Bergman. Since it is Christmas, I can help you out on that one. E-mail me your address and a copy will be on it's way out to you. I used to collect every printing of the book and finally lost interest. I had over 39 copies of it from different printings and editions and so on. So I have an extra copy or two that was looking for a new home. Don't worry about me losing this book or giving it away. I still have the 1rst edition 1938 Copy and a copy release by Fishermens gold series by the Derrydale press celebrating the 1938 book and two copies of the 1952 expanded editon. I will never let those copies of mine go. So anyway, get off this post and get that E-mail going. Lastly thanks for the B-day wish.

    Sincerely
    Andy Brasko

P.S. I do not want anything for this book. I have helped a lot of tyers out on this website and a lot of others.
