I don' tie flies because I dont have the time however I have bought a couple thousand over the last 25 years. Today I was going through my olives and sulfers and putting them in size order and started going crazy and cross eyed.
The problem seems to be my eye sight is not what it once was, combined with different hook manufacturers, long shanks, shorter shanks, sparsely tied flies and heavier tied flays add to that the hook style with the curve to look more like an emerging insect. Is there any good hook charts that can help me sort by just holding the fly to the chart when in doubt ? Some sizes seem to be border line, not large enough for a 14 and a little too big for a 16, same with 18 and 20's.
