help with floss underbody I was learning to tie a new caddis larva pattern (by Stalcup) last night. The recipe calls for single-strand white floss as an underbody. The instructions call for tying the floss directly on the bare hook, building an underbody, tying in some clear larva lace and two strands of ostrich herl. The floss is then whip finished off and colored with an olive/green marker before weaving the lace and herl. After the weave, thread is reattached to tie off the lace, followed by making a wingcase and a dubbed thorax before finishing the fly.
The problem I'm having is that the floss (I'm using Uni-floss) spins around the hook from time to time when I need to apply pressure. What would be the best thing to do to stop this. I was thinking about adding a drop of cement to the bare hook to give it some tackiness. In the video that I watched nothing was applied to the bare hook. I'm not sure what floss was used, all I know is he called it single-strand floss. |
