I never put much thought into this till recently as I maintain that although in general I do not enjoy tying flies I do it because I enjoy catching fish however I do see my odds of catch fish increase exponentially once the individual is willing to admit that presentation is key fly choice is second. So I thought about it a bit more and more and late one night in my car on 78 after hearing on NPR The National Public Radio Station what makes humans different from animals aside from having thumbs… it all made sense.

To me the primary reason I tie flies is the humans ability to be prospective. Apparently this ability helps us pay the bills and even catch a couple fish on flies that were not tied by children in South America.

So what are some other reasons people tie flys? I would love to hear others take on this issue.
