I have been going to Chincoteague, VA since the 80's, started off going as a child and now go every other summer. Camped for years until 2006 when we started renting a house with my brother and his wife. We are booked for the 2nd week in June with hopes of good summer flounder/fluke fishing and plentiful crabbing and clamming. Assateague Island is there and is a national wildlife refuge and has an awesome beach. A nice campgroud on Chincoteaue is Tom's Cove and they have waterfront sites. Maddox campground looks nice, inlet view is a dump. The town itself is not as commercial as other summer locations, while still clearly catered to the summer vacationers.
The crabbing is good and the fishing is good if you are bouncing bottom with squid and minnow rigs. I have yet to find any fly fishing opportunities which stinks, unless I decide to surf cast. If anyone has some information about bug slinging in this area, I too would appreciate it.
