Belize Turneffe Island fishing report...

All,
Went to Turneffe Island in Belize for the first time over Easter this year (4/7 - 4/14). The fishing, as expected, was awesome. The schedule mostly consisted of Permit hunting in the morning and Bonefish on the various flats late-morning to afternoon.
The permit fishing was especially HOT that week as out of 12 fisherman I think 12-14 Permit were caught including a 40lb monster that was largest the resort has seen! The average size was 15lb. They were all caught from boat but I had at least 4 opps at Permit on the flats too.
The Bonefishing was probably the biggest surprise to all because of how difficult they were to catch. I think everyone was catching one or two a day but each flat seemed to hold more fish than the next. It was not uncommon to see multiple schools of 50+ fish but again it was hard, even with good casts in tough wind, to get them to take. The average size was probably 3-4lbs but they are expected to be smaller in Belize. Still gave up a hell of a fight though!
The Tarpon were just starting to come in and we did fish for them one morning and saw 5-6 50-60lb fish rolling but nothing biting and no one caught one though another group had two on. I managed to catch a nice size Bone while Tarpon fishing with a green/white deciever and sinking line! We all thought it was a Jack at first and were quite surprised to see a Bone on the end of the line. It would have been a really nice fish for a 7/8wt but the 12wt Tarpon rod brought him in quick.
Overall I could not rec'd Turneffe Island enough as the beauty, remoteness, outstanding guides, good food, and of course fishing made for an incredible outing!! Did I mention that the last morning before leaving I went out to flats just outside our cabin and fished to a very large permit tailing! Well, I had quite a crowd cheering me on and I put the fly on its nose but the merkin was a bit too heavy for the situation and spooked the fish. Oh well, that's why I have to go back again!!
(If anyone has any specific questions please let me know and I would be glad to answer. I will be posting some pics soon. )
