| Island Beach SP Jetty Interesting and a little scary - IBSP Jetty The waves were roaring in yesterday morning. I thought I had let the high tide recede enough to make it safe to venture out on the Jetty. Man that is not for the faint hearted. I was out to the first pole, that is half way and maybe 100-125 yards I would guess. A couple of waves scared the day lights out of me, although I don't think an experienced Jetty fisherman would have batted an eye. Anyway 25 casts or so were enough for me, but watching that big fly undulate in the wash 40-50 feet out was pretty cool. I was waiting for a big ole striper to smash it, didn't have a clue how to get him in once I did, but nothing happened anyway. I am going to try and get back out there on Labor day weekend I think. Next time I'll have corkers and a gaff. I've caught plenty of stripers, but either from the sodbacks in the bay or from a boat. I have never fished a Jetty before, especially with a fly rod. Hooking a 15 pounder would really get the blood boiling, i think. Does anyone out there have any experience with this?
