| New Rod!!! I just finished building my 3wt fly rod. I put the finish coat of epoxy on the wraps last night. This is what it is: St. Croix 3pc 3wt 7'9" SCIV (Ultra Legend) Blank REC downlocking nickle silver with spalted maple burl reel seet REC Flor grade cork grip REC Recoil Titanium alloy guides, tip-top, & stripper guide (they are super light, and flexable - will never rust, corrode, or bend) REC gold plated hook keeper I put it together tonight after making an emergency repair on my house (it had a hole in it that let water in). I tied a small piece of indicator yarn on the end of the leader, and made a few casts. WOW!!! I was able to cast out to 50'. What a crisp action! For a quick accuracy test, I cast to a 5 gal bucket about 30' away. I was able to drop the yarn in the bucket 8 out of 10 casts, and bounced it off the side on the other two. I'd put this rod up against a Sage any day. If I don't go fishing tomorrow, I think I might explode... |
