Talking Musky Fishing report

Fished the Musky (between Stephensburg and Beatystown) from 5 PM to dusk on Saturday and 3 PM to Dusk Sunday. (Sunday was supposed to drive to Baltimore but the wife was sick...I felt bad so I had to go fishing) and had a good time. When I got there on Saturday ran into 2 spin fishermen that were leaving and said that fish were rising all over the place. I was all alone on the stream and say there was a good number of sulpher (size 16) but sporadic surface activity until the spinner fall later that day. Also was a lot of BWO (size 20-22). Water has good levels, clear and 68-59 degrees.

Went back a little earlier on Sunday, same this as Saturday, Sulphers and BWO but there were about 5 fly fishermen working the stream. Ran into one fellow who was fishing a nice long slower run and said he caught and released about 20 fish on a sulpher emerger and dun. I told me that the sulphers appeared last week and it has been like this for a week.

I fished a faster section of water and there were limited rises until later in the day. Along the banks over the water and in the bush there were numerous spinners getting ready. So was I until I dropped my glasses (3X magnification) into the stream ( It sucks being over 45) so I stayed with the nymph I had on.

Over both days I caught and released 5 and 9 fish and missed a few others (most were rainbows). Caught a few on on a CDC sulpher emerger ( I have to learn how to fish this better) an the rest on a flashback PTBH (size 16). Lost a nice rainbow that went down and took me under some submerged rocks that I was trying to avoid.

The funny thing about the PT was that I tried larger sizes a had no hits when fished through the same water. Also a few of the fish hi as it was on the rise to the top at the end of a drift.......I caught a nice rainbow when jumped out of the water and hit just as I moved it to re-cast.

Now I need to get out a couple of times early this week after work, get new glasses and hit the spinner falls. All in all this beeing my first year fly fishing I have had good time and learned alot but as Jimmy Buffet said ....."There is still so much to be done".
