| Fished the Toms River upstream of the TCA yesterday afternoon in the rain. The river was stocked with Browns on Monday and I wanted to finally catch one. The drive down from work should have taken 45 minutes, instead over an hour. Oh well, some lost fishing time which is hard to bear. I have very little time to fish this year with an infant and toddler at home right now. I fished from 3:30 to 5pm and noticed the following: 1. Trees are leafed out, so the river is fishing like a mountain creek, lots of overhanging vegetation providing rich cover. 2. I observed the following insects comming off blue winged olive #18-20, sparse large sulphur, #10-12, sparse gray fox (maybe, need to check) #16 as usual lots of midges. I got one brown to follow my presentation about 7 times, and he hit on a streamer on the second presentation. Then all he would do is follow back to within 3 feet of me. I had a good time and next time I hope to finally catch a brown on the Toms. Lots of brookies, but no browns for me yet. Enjoy!
