Hey with all this talk about the Catskills I'm wondering what is your favorite Catskill River/Stream and why? If you had one day to fish prime time on any River or Stream there what would you pick? (assume they are all in great shape and fishing well)
Mine is the upper Mainstem of the Delaware. First it's all wild trout. No dumb stockies or holdovers here. The trout are big and challengling. They are principally rainbows which I enjoy catching the most due to their fast runs and acrobatics. The Mainstem is extremely scenic and quiet. It doesn't have the traffic drone of Rt 17 along it like many spots on the Willow, the Beaverkill and the West Branch of the Delaware. It also does not get as crowded as the Beaverkill or Willow or even the upper part of the WBD if you're willing to walk. Now mind you, you won't catch as many fish in a day as other Catskill streams but this is not a river where success is measure in quantity.
I do like the WBD alot and will fish the Beaverkill and Willow from time to time but for me it's the BiG D hands down. I'm a true mainstem junky.
